Ellis Knox accepts helmet on behalf of The Pittsburg Gazette

Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Brad Baca presented The Pittsburg Gazette a retired football helmet in recognition of the Gazette’s commitment to covering Pittsburg ISD’s sports programs. “We appreciate The Gazette’s coverage and support of the kids in our programs,” Coach Baca said. Pittsburg Lady Pirates and Pirates qualify for area track meet

In the recent district track meet Apr. 14 in Atlanta, the following Pittsburg athletes quali ed for the Area Track Meet to be held in Atlanta, ursday, Apr. 21. Quali ers in track are the following. In the women’s 3200 meter run, Emily Calderon and Angie Reyes. In the 4x100 relay Abigail Florey, Ayanna Palmer, Maxie Ivory, Taylor Porter, Kadeviuona Andrews, and Malaysia Burns all quali ed. In the women’s 4x400 relay Abigail Florey, Ayanna Palmer, Malaysia Burns, Kadeviuona Andrews, Kyauna Jones, and Rebecca Miner. In the 200, Kadeviuona Andrews, quali ed and in the 1600, Emily Calderon. In the men’s track, in the 4x200 relay the quali ers are Mark omas, Shaq Burton, Keonte Burns, Red Shields, Tate Palmer, and David McCellon.

Lady Pirates struggle to stay in contention

The Lady Pirates broke their three game losing streak by outstanding defense and exceptional pitching by Marisol Kennedy. Kennedy threw 78 pitches, 56 were strikes, and 20 were rst pitch strikes, and struck out 10. Kennedy allowed only two hits and shut-out Liberty-Eylau. In the bottom of the third Kim Roach doubled to right eld on a Texas-leaguer. Madison Busch’s sacri ce advanced Roach to third. en Kaycee Parker doubled to right and Roach scored. And that’s the way it ended. This win puts the Lady Pirates into the district play-offs. The teams’ record in district at this printing is 5-4.

Pirate baseball drop third in a row

The Pirates are grappling for position in 4A Region II District 15 Standings. e Pirates lost to Liberty-Eylau at home 6-2. After tying the game in the third, the L-E batter homer to le to go ahead 3-2. It was all defense and tough pitching by both teams until the top of the sixth when L-E drove in another run making it 4-2. Then in the top of the seventh, pitcher Brett McGee was relieved by Jace Wood. Another run scored on a wild pitch and another on a single, to run the score up to 6-2. at’s the way it ended.

Pirates blast Atlanta 6-0

The first inning of the Atlanta Rabbits and Pirates’ game saw both teams go three up and three down. In the top of the second, pitcher Brett McGee gave up two hits but good fielding retired the side without a score. In the bottom of the second, Dalton Warrick, singled to left, then made it to third on an error, then Noah Thames stretched a would be single to a double. Warrick scored, when Cristian Netro hit into a field’s choice. Catcher Dakota Torrey, grounded out to retire the side. The third and fourth innings were all defense. The bottom of the fifth started with Torrey ying out to center. Jace wood was hit by a pitch and took his base at first.

Shelbi Hill qualifies for golf regionals

Golf Coach Kenneth Shelton reports that Shelbi Hill has quali ed for the regional golf tournament in Canton. She took second place out of 18 girls shooting a 36 hole total of 179. Her rst round was played at North Ridge Country Club where she shot an 85 and her second round Monday at the Paris Country Club where she shot a 94.

Lady Pirates unable to rally against Atlanta

It was all defense up until the bottom of the fourth when the Lady Pirates scored first after Mackenzie Blackstock singled into center field. Then Sydney Reynolds singled to center and Blackstock scored the Lady Pirates’ single run. The fifth inning saw both teams go three up and three down, as tough defense from both teams continued. Marisol Kennedy was on top of her pitching game until the top of the sixth inning, with one on first, she hit the Atlanta Lady Rabbits batter with a pitch, and she seemed rattled by this. The next batter doubled to center and both runners scored to go ahead by one run, two to one. Coach Bachelor called Kaycee Parker to the mound and relieved Kennedy.

Pirates down Chapel Hill, 2-1

The Pirate baseball team defeated the Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill Bulldogs, 2-1, Friday March 18. Brett McGee pitched four innings, gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out six. McGee got the only hit and had one RBI, pitching he had nine rst strike pitches and six strikeouts. Mark Torres pitched two innings in relief, had six first strike pitches, and gave up one run on a elding error.
