Pirates fall to Pleasant Grove in playoffs

The Pirates amazing comeback from fourth place tomove into the regional playoffs was an amazing feat for an amazing team. However, their district nemesis the Pleasant Grove Hawks once again was able to dominate play. The Hawks are an excellent team and will go far the rest of this playoff season. It was superior pitching fromPleasant Grove that held the Pirates to only one run in the best of two of three games. Game One The first game was held in Pleasant Grove High School, in Texarkana, the Pirates managed only three hits against the Hawks’ pitching. Brett McGee pitched six innings for the Pirates, threw 100 pitches, of which 60 were strikes, tossed 19 first strike pitches, and stuck out two. He gave up four runs, on five hits, his strike percentage was an excellent .600 percent.

The Pittsburg Pirates win Area Championship defeat Canton 3-2

Canton Eagles’ catcher waits in vain as Dalton Earnest slides safely home, off Chris Garcia’s fly into left field, for the win.The Pirates won 3 to 2 in the bottom of the eighth inning defeating the Canton Eagles for the title.

Area Champion Pirates to Play Pleasant Grove Hawks in Regional Quarter finals

The Pirate were paired up with the Canton Eagles for the Area playo games for the best two out of three. The games were played in Tyler at the Mike Carter Field next to Rose Stadium in the 2nd Round of the playoffs on Thursday at 4:30, and Friday at 7:30. Game three was unnecessary. Game One: e Pirates scored two in the rst, Derrick McCellon the first batter was walked, stole second, and then was knocked in by Dalton Ernest. Then Chris Garcia singled to left and Ernest scored. Canton Scored one in the second. However, Pitt came back with two more in the top of the third. With one out, Brett McGee singled. With two out Dalton Warrick doubled and brought in McGee. Noah ames singled to right and Warrick scored on an error, Canton did not score at bat, making the score in the top of the forth, Pitt 4 – Canton 1..

Pirates thwart Leopards for regional spot

The Pirates settled a tie for fourth in 4A Region II, District 15 baseball, at a playo against their old rivals the Liberty-Eylau Leopards. Winning 9 to 4. Coach Tommy Stewart once again went to Dakota Torrey’s pitching arm to lead o this do or die game. Torrey won the game, rising to the occasion by pitching 5.1 innings, throwing 91 pitches against 22 batters, and threw 48 strikes of which 12 were rst strike pitches. He had an outstanding strike percentage of .527, pitching 5.1 innings. He gave up only four runs, on two hits, walked ve and struck out four.

Baseball team tagged as bi-district champs

The Pirates bested the Bullard Panthers in a best of two out of three series. Winning game one and game two to close the door on the Panthers for the Bi-District title. Game one re-cap. Bullard the designated home team scored rst in the bottom of the rst by one run. e Pirates went ahead by scoring two runs in the top of the h and the Panthers tied it up in the bottom of the fifth, three runs each. In the top of the sixth the pirates created a storm of runs putting six runs across the plate bring the total to nine. The Panthers were not able to rally and it ended, Pirates 6, Panthers 3. Brett McGee pitched all seven innings, faced 28 batters, throwing 104 pitches, 69 of which were strikes and 18 of those were first strike pitches. He pitched an exceptional .663 strike percentage. He gave up seven hits, three runs, struck out three, and walked none.

Pirates drop fourth game in row to Paris

The Pirates were away for this district contest in Paris. The Paris Wildcats took the lead in the bottom of the second by four runs. e Pirates put up one run in the top of the third, another three in the top of the fourth, to tie the game four all. en one more in the top of the fifth to go ahead 5 to 4. In the bottom of the h the Wildcats rallied three runs making it 7 to 5 and that’s the way it ended. In the top of the sixth, Dalton Ernest stretched his hit to a double on an error, but the run died on second as the team could not get anything going. Same thing happened in the top of the seventh, Dalton Warrick was hit by a pitch and was advanced to third but the run died there.

Lady Pirates’ softball team advance to regional playoffs

The Lady Pirates advance to playo series, rst game is against Bullard at Pine Tree, Longview, Thursday, April 28 at 6:30 p.m. The two teams will play games two and three Saturday, Apr. 30, at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm in Mineola. Winner of best two out of three will advance. The Lady Pirates defeated the Paris, Lady Wildcats in a shutout 12-0, away in Paris, Saturday, Apr. 23. The Lady Pirates bombed the Lady wildcats with 10 hits. ere were 10 runs in the rst three innings, and two more in the fourth. Kasey Parker had two hits and four RBIs, Sydney Waldrep, had two hits, three RBIs, and was walked once. Bailey Smith and Madison Sansom, both had one hit, one RBI, and were walked once.

Lady Pirates and a Pirate advance to regionals

The following Lady Pirates will advance to the Regional Track Meet to be held April 29, in Atlanta. e Lady Pirates team ranked seventh out of twelve teams with a total of 37 team points. Track: In the 3200 meter run, Emily Calderon, was fourth with a time of 13 minutes, 01.001 seconds and she also quali ed in fourth place in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:59.926. In the 200 meter dash, Kadeviuona Andrews, was fourth with a time of 26.648 seconds. e 4x400 meter relay team was fourth with a time of 4:11.078. The relay team members are Rebecca Miner, Malaysia Burns, Ayanna Palmer, and Kadeviuona Andrews. Relay alternates are Kyauna Jones, and Abigail Florey. Field: In the shot put, Taylor Leonard was fourth at a distance of 33 feet, 08 inches. In the triple jump, Malaysia Burns, was third with a distance of 35’-7 ¾”.
