Lady Pirates trounce North Lamar, Paris, 8-3

Marisol Kennedy pitched and hit her way to a 4A, Region II, District 15 victory with the entire teams’ defensive e orts backing her up. Kennedy pitched all seven innings, threw 89 pitches, had seven rst pitch strikes, struck out six and had only one walk. She had two hits, a double in the fourth, driving in one and earlier in the bottom of the second on a line drive triple, driving in two runs to take the team into the lead, 4-2. Madison Sansom caught Kennedy to complete the battery. Superior defense in the out eld by Sydney Waldrep, Taylor Bullock and Mckenzie Blackstock and several aggressive defenses plays by the in eld by Sydney Reynolds, Madison Busch, and a masterful second effort by Bailey Smith and several heads-up plays by Kaycee Parker, spoiled any chances of scoring by North Lamar.

Pirates defeat Paris in a regional tune-up, 2-1

Tuesday, March 22, the district 13-4A champions Pittsburg Pirates played a tune-up game before the playo s against the Paris Wildcats. The Wildcats had beat the Pirates 2-0 earlier this year in tournament play. The Pirates got on the board rst when Armando Cisneros passed to Victor Ponce. Ponce would expertly handle the ball and nish the shot, putting the Pirates up 1-0, 10minutes into the game. e Wildcats would answer quickly, just barely getting the ball past the goal line 5 minutes later, making it 1-1. at’s how the half would end a er aggressive defensive play by both teams. In the second half it would be all defense by both teams as nobody could get much going on o ense. e defensive e ort for the Pirates again being led by the foursome of Cisneros, Alexandro Mata, Eric Ponce, and Alex Rodriguez, as well as a lot of help by junior stopper Jose Garcia.

Pleasant Grove squeaks by Lady Pirates, 5-1

A combination of good defense, bad luck, and Lady Pirate errors enable the Pleasant Grove, Texarkana, Lady Hawks to squeak by in a district contest, on Good Friday at Broach Park. Bailey Smith was starting pitcher allowed only one hit, walked two, six rst strike pitches, and struck out three in three innings. Two runs scored on errors. Marisol Kennedy was losing pitcher in relief, she pitched four innings, had 15 rst strike pitches, one strike out, walked none, and allowed three runs.

Pirates Soccer crush Atlanta Rabbits, 13-0

Head Soccer Coach Tyler Simmons reports it was another lopsided victory over the Atlanta Rabbits as the final score ended up being 13-0. The Pirates superior play dominated the game, again keeping the ball on the Atlanta side of the field almost the whole game. Cristian Martinez got the scoring started quickly for the Pirates, scoring only 2 minutes into the game. From then on the Pirates could not be stopped. Martinez would have a total of 2 goals, as would Alexandro Mata, and Jose Trejo would nish with 4 goals. Victor Ponce, Jason Rojas, Alex Rodriguez, and Eric Ponce would all add a goal as well.

The Lady Pirates top Sabine, Gladewater, 5-2

The Lady Pirates played an unscheduled pick-up game with the Sabine, Gladewater, Lady Cardinals, Tuesday, March 15, at their home field at Broach Park. Sabine scored one in the first inning to move into an early lead. The Lady Pirates responded in the bottom of the first to tie up the score. The bottom of the third sewed up the game for the Lady Pirates with Kacey Parker on third after her single, then stealing second, she advanced to third on a passed ball. Taylor Bullock slapped a Texas leaguer into left field over the head of the short-stop and Kacey Parker came in on Bullock’s stand-up double. The next batter up Sydney Waldrep pounded a long y into center scoring Bullock. Waldrep turned on the speed as she rounded second to beat the throw to third for a triple.

Pirates sweep Hooks track meet

Head Track Coach Octavious Parker reports the Pirates dominated the Hooks’ track meet held ursday, March 17. The Varsity Girls, Varsity Boys and JV boys, took first place in each category. The Pirate teams were the only ones at meet that scored more than 100 points as a team. Varsity Girls Score First: Pittsburg – 101 pts. Second: Daingerfield – 56 pts.
