Porter

Mrs. Martha Ann Porter, 81, passed away on Thursday, June 21 at her home in Pittsburg. Mrs. Porter was born, Martha Ann Hill, March 24, 1937 to Guy Thurman “Buddy” And Geraldine “Gerry” Carroll Hill in Pittsburg. Mrs. Porter grew up in the First Baptist Church Pittsburg and was a life time Christian. However, she spent 20 years of her early adult life abroad, living in different cultures and within different religions. Her first adventure abroad was to Melbourne Australia in the mid 1960’s, from Australia she moved to Oakura, New Zealand, from New Zealand to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from Malaysia to Teheran Iran, from Iran she moved to Ahmadi Kuwait after the Ayatollah Khomeini came to power in Iran, from Kuwait she moved to Aberdeen Scotland and after Scotland, she returned to “behind the Pine Curtain.” She loved antiquities, therefore Greece was one of her favorite places. The obituary photo was taken in Greece in the mid 1970’s.

Ruby Lee Duffey, 94, passed away Wednesday, June 27 at Christus Mother Frances in Winnsboro. Services were held Wednesday, July 4 at Faith Building Ministries in Winnsboro with Rev. Craig Duffey as eulogist and burial was at Macedonia Cemetery in Leesburg.

Veronica L. Henderson Stephenson, 51, passed away Sunday, July 1 at her home in Pittsburg. Funeral services were held Monday, July 9 at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Pittsburg with Rev. Patrick Lloyd as eulogist and burial was at Reeves Chapel Cemetery.

Pendergrass

Dr. Robert “Bob” Pendergrass, 93, was born Sept. 15, 1924 in Kingsville. He died Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 6:03 p.m. in Austin with his wife, Mary, by his side. Services were held Tuesday, June 26 at Beck Funeral Home with burial following at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery in Austin. On Monday, December 8, the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor, he volunteered to serve in the U.S. Army. He reenlisted in the U.S. Air Force to aid the Korean War effort. While in the USAF, he served as chief of surgery for the 3555th Medical Group at Perrin AFB in Sherman and then commander of the 3645th Medical Group and Hospital at Laughlin AFB in Del Rio. He graduated from Texas A&M College, Ohio State University, University of Michigan Medical School and Surgical Residency Baylor Hospital. From 1953 to 1980, Pendergrass, known as Dr. Bob, was in private practice as a general family physician and surgeon in Pittsburg, Camp County, where frequent house calls were the norm.

Danny Lin Gary

Danny Lin Gary, 69, of Pittsburg, Texas was born January 28, 1949 in Big Springs, Texas to Fletcher Henry Gary and Lois Blanche Wakefield Gary and passed away at his home in Pittsburg, June 23, 2018. Danny served in the Army as a member of the 101st Airborne during the Vietnam War, member of the Greer Blvd. Church of Christ in Pittsburg, worked in the funeral industry at Texarkana Funeral Home in his early years and then in 1976 started working for Erman Smith Funeral Home in Pittsburg where he became co-owner before his retirement. He is also a member of Vietnam Veterans of America. His is survived by his wife, June Rodden Gary of Pittsburg; daughters and their husbands, Amanda and Brian Trussell of New Braunsfels, Texas and Morgan and Jeff Frost of Omaha, Texas. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, Avery and Trent Trussell, 2 nieces, Sherry McFerran and Angie Powell, and a host of family and friends. Danny was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Lynda Brown.

Barrett

Mr. Bobby Barrett, age 89 of Pittsburg, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2018 in Pittsburg. Mr. Barrett was born Jan. 25, 1929 to J.W. “Jimmy” and Pearl Sloan Barrett in Mt. Pleasant. Mr. Barrett was a member of the First Methodist Church and was a retired county commissioner. Mr. Barrett is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Pittsburg; sons, Robert “Reb” Barrett and wife Sara of Pittsburg and Kevin Barrett of Pittsburg; three grandchildren, Sadie Grace Barrett, Ladi Wray Barrett, and Lacy Paige Burns; brothers, Lewis Barrett of Mt. Pleasant, and Jackie Barrett and wife Inga of Mt. Pleasant. He is preceded in death by wife, Eugenia Wray McMinn Barrett; his parents, J. W. “Jimmy” and Pearl Sloan Barrett; and sister, Saundra Efurd. Funeral Services were held Wednesday, June 20 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery in Pittsburg. Family received friends prior to the service at the First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg.
