Pirates go 4-0 at 271 Showcase

The Pittsburg Pirates had a couple of close games but manage to go undefeated in the Highway 271 Showcase on March 9-11 at home.
Pittsburg opened up their showcase schedule with a 7-0 win over Jacksonville on March 9.
On Friday, the Pirates had two close call with extra-innings wins over Arkansas High School and Nashville, Ark.
The Pirates edged Arkansas High, 6-5, in eight innings, then came back to nip Nashville, 3-2, in an 11-inning thriller.
They closed out the three-day affair with an 8-0 shutout of Newman Smith of Carrollton.

Five Pirates named all-district

Members of the Pirates’ boys basketball team who was named to the all-district team for District 14-4A were (left to right) Dejour Dowell, Jakeivian Hudges, Deldric Shields, Jaylor Jimmerson and Keontae Burns.

Pittsburg High landed five players on the District 14-4A elite boys’ team.
Senior Jakeivian Hughes was named as the Defensive Player of the Year, while senior Dejour Dowell was a first-team selection.
Sophomore Jaylon Jimmerson was selected as Newcomer of the Year, while senior Deldric Shield was named to the second team. 
Sophomore Keontae Burns was an honorable mention.
Paris’ Jalon Pipkins was named the 14-4A’s Most Valuable Player, while Josh Robinson was the Offensive MVP and Paris coach Billy Mack Steed was honored as Coach of the Year.

pirates beat Chapel Hill, 2-1, for 6th district win

CHAPEL HILL -- The Pittsburg Pirates boys soccer team posted a 2-1 District 13 win over Chapel Hill of Mount Pleasant on March 3.
Ben Espinoza and Luis Benitez each scored a goal. Espinoza had an assist and eight steals, while Benitez record five steals.
Goalkeeper Ronny Garcia had seven saves and allowed one goal.
The Pirates will play Waskom at home Friday, March 10, then travel to Pleasant Grove for a March 20 encounter in District 13 play.
The Pirates will have a bye on Friday, March 17.
As of March 6, Pittsburg has played six district games, while the remainder of the district has played only 2-3 games.
