Lady Pirates push past Bullard in 3 games, face Carthage in regional quarterfinals

LONGVIEW – The Pittsburg Lady Pirates coming off an opening game loss, bounced back to win two game as they advanced to the Class 4A Region 2 quarterfinals.
Pittsburg fell in a close one, 4-3, to Bullard on May 5 at Pine Tree Field, but came back on Saturday for two consecutive wins, 4-2 and 7-0.
“We are super excited to be advancing to the third round as area champs,” said head coach Brandi Batchelor. “To our knowledge this has not happened since 1998 when they went four rounds.”
After dropping the first game of the best-of-three game series, 4-3, on Friday, the Lady Pirates put together two wins.
“We knew it would be tough against Bullard especially after losing game one and having to come back and beat them twice on Saturday,” Batchelor said. “We were persistent and the girls stayed pumped. It’s so cool seeing the girls play for each other instead of themselves.”
