High school bass club members place fifth

From Staff Reports
WILLIS POINT -- During a tournament on Lake Tawakoni on Feb. 23, the Camp County High School Bass Club shined.
Adding another plaque to their wall, Camp County’s Dakota Durfee and Tucker Ratley have been very consistent in the last four high school bass tournaments.
The finish puts them at third place in the Eastern Division which includes 233 teams and over 30 high schools.
“We pray before each tourney and just have fun fishing,” said both, Durfee and Ratley.
Two other Camp County teams placed at Lake Tawanoki. Aaron Martinez and Riley VanReenen placed 20th with 12.63 pounds and Alfredo Flores and Braden Jones placed 29th with 11.73 pounds.
The spotlight will be on all of the teams as they compete again on Lake Palestine next month for the final tournament before they battle it out with the Houston Division on April 15 at Lake Sam Rayburn for the regional championship.
The regional championship is where the college recruiters will have their eyes on potential prospects while they watch the remaining qualifying teams’ battle in the state championship for college scholarships.
“This is what it’s all about and this is the reason why we are here,” Steve Reyes said.
The Camp County High School Bass Club advisors are Chay and Steve Reyes.
