Senior Teandra Duffey, junior Sydney Waldrep and sophomore Malaysia Burns were honorable mention on the all-district squad.
Named to the Academic all-district team were Duffey, Smith, Reynolds, Waldrep, junior Taylor Bullock and freshman Jaylnn Smith
The Lady Pirates, comprised of two seniors and a host of underclassmen, finished the season 9-24 and was winless in 14-4A play.
“As a team, we had higher goals than what we were able to accomplish this year so there was some disappointment but there were also a lot of positives along the way,” said coach Ryan Herring. “I saw some young, inexperienced basketball players gradually improve throughout the entire season. Being in my second year at Pittsburg, I got to see how much better the returning varsity players were this year compared to where they were last year.
“Hopefully, the fact that we didn’t reach our goals this season will encourage the returning players to work that much harder next season.”
Herring is looking forward to next season.
“Next year we will be returning seven players that got varsity experience this year so that experience should ease the learning curve for next season and give us a solid group to build around,” he said. “I think we will have about 15 girls that will be capable of competing at a varsity level which should give us good depth next year.”
