Pirate Black, Gold shine at first-ever Pittsburg JV baseball tournament

The first-ever Pittsburg Junior Varsity Baseball Tournament is now history.
The two-day affair was held March 2 and 4 at the Big Green.
Pittsburg had two teams – Black and Gold – participating in the round-robin tournament.
The enlargement of the old softball field and its considerable upgrade enabled the team to begin the tournament.
“This will be an annual event from now on,: said baseball coach Tommy Stewart. 
The Pittsburg Gold squad went 2-0, beating Winnsboro twice.
Joe Baxter and Michael Netro combined on the mound for a 2-1 win on March 2. 
On Saturday, the Gold held of the Rockwall-Field Red Raiders, 5-2.
“We got fantastic efforts on the mound from Thomas Taylor, Tucker Ratley, and Cameron Layton in this game,” said JV coach Aaron Pearson. 
The Black team posted a 1-1 mark. On Friday, They shutout Longview, 15-0.
Peterson said pitcher Jake Jackson allowed one hit in 41 pitches against Longview.
At the plate, Black exploded for 15 runs over Longview.  
On Saturday, they fell to Hughes Springs. 5-3, despite “great efforts” on the mound by John Baxter and Javier Ramirez
