Lady Pirates win bi-district, Bullard up next in area round

MINEOLA – The Pittsburg Lady Pirates won their Class 4A bi-district matchup against Brownsboro and will face Bullard in the area round on Friday and Saturday, May 5 and 6, at Pine Tree Field in Longview.
The first game of the best of three series is 7 p.m. Friday and the second game is 2 p.m. Saturday. If a third game is need, it is set for 4 p.m.
Pittsburg defeated Brownsboro in a best of three series. They won the April 28 game, 1-0 and the next day took the series with a 5-3 win.

Yantis finishes 24th at 4A regional golf tournament

CANTON — Pittsburg’s Jackson Yantis fired a 161 (76, 85) to tie for 24th at the Class 4A Region II Golf Tournament at Van Zandt Country Club on April 24-25.
Yantis was in 11th place after he fired a 76 on the first day.
Canton finished at 594 as a team for the championship. Pleasant Grove was the runner-up at 611, and Argyle had a 614 for third.

Pirates end season with 1-0 play-in loss to Atlanta

LONGVIEW – The Pittsburg Pirates ended their season with a 1-0 loss to Atlanta in a play-in for fourth place in District 14-4A at Lobo Stadium on April 28.
Atlanta will represent 14-4A in bi-district action this week. The Pirates end the season 20-11 overall.
The Rabbits scored the game’s lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a single.
Jake Thompson struck out six Pirates in seven innings on the mound. He allowed just three hits.
Brett McGee took the loss for Pittsburg. He threw six innings and allowed seven hits, while fanning six and walked one.
Chris Garcia, Jace Woods and Dakota Torrey each had a hit for the Pirates. Pittsburg left five runners on base.

North Lamar spoils Lady Pirates’ Senior Night with win

The No. 4. North Lamar Pantherettes spoiled Senior Night for the Pittsburg Lady Pirates with a 10-1 win in District 14-4A action April 19.
North Lamar struck first as Bailee Nickerson drilled a solo home run in the top of the first inning.
The Lady Pirates tied the score when Madison Busch scored on an error.
North Lamar came back for four runs in the second, another in the fourth and ended the scoring with four in the sixth.
The Lady Panthers finished with 10 hits, while Pittsburg managed four.
North Lamar used two pitchers as Reagan Richardson recorded the win. She fanned eight batters and walked one while allowing four hits. 
Brooke Collard struck out five and walked one in three innings of relief.
Sydney Reynolds, Madison Sansom, Kaycee Parker and Busch each had a hit.
In the circle, Parker allowed 10 hits, struck out 10 and walked six.

Pittsburg 7, Liberty-Eylau 0 –Kaycee Parker had 3 hits and 3 RBIs – including a homer in the first,  while Sydney Reynolds added 4 hits and a pair of RBIs as the Lady Pirates won on the road in District 14-4A play.  Pittsburg opened the game with 2 runs in the first, scored 4 in the second and added one in the fourth. Bailey Smith tossed a 4-hitter in the circle for the winners. She fanned 11 and walked 2.

11 Pirates named to all-district team
Eleven Pittsburg players were named to the first and second-team of the 2017 13-4A All-District boys’ soccer team announced last week. Efrain Cruz was named Defensive Player of the Year, while teammate Eric Ponce was selected as Sophomore of the Year by coaches. Named to the first-team squad were Cristian Martinez, midfielder; Brian Bello and Jason Rojas, defenders, and Ronny Garcia as goalkeeper. Second-team selections were Jose and Luis Benitez, forwards; Jose Garcia and Kevin Ramirez, midfielders; Marcos Perez and Benjamin Espinosa, defenders. Bryan Barrios was honorable mention.

Pittsburg boys, girls finish fourth at 14-4A track meet

The Pittsbur\rg boys and girls finished fourth in their respective divisions at the District 14-4A track and field championships on April 20.
The top four finishers from each event advance to this week’s area meet to qualify for next week’s regional meet.
The boys tallied 83.5 points, while host Atlanta won the district title with 208, followed by Liberty-Eylau with 118.5. North Lamar was third (97), while Paris (70) and Pleasant Grove (37) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
Bradlee Warrick was the Pirates’ lone first-place gold medalist. He took first in the shot put with a throw of 47-2. He also was third in the discus at 132-5.
Keontae Burns finished second in the triple jump at 43-3.5 and Jermain Rogers was second in the 800 at 2:04.89.
The 4x200 relay team took second behind Atlanta. The Pirate foursome of Shaquil Burton, Tate Palmer, Deldric Shields and Cristion Williams recorded a time of 1:31.14.
