SOCCER: Pirates end season with loss to Chapel Hill of Tyler
From Staff Reports
LONGVIEW – Chapel Hill of Tyler scored twice in the first half as they eliminated the Pittsburg Pirates, 2-0, from the Class 4A boys soccer playoffs on April 4 at Pine Tree Stadium.
The Pirates end the season 13-8-1 with the Region 2 quarterfinals loss.
“For some reason we just started out slow and didn’t anticipate Chapel Hill starting that fast,” said Pirate coach Jody Loewen. “Once we settled down, we were able to posses the ball a little more. We even got a few good looks at the goal. We just weren’t able to finish when we needed to.”
Loewen said he was “very happy” with the season.
“ We were able to win the Kings Classic Tournament in Paris, were able to pull off an overtime win in Pleasant Grove to be three-peat district champs, and defeat Athens 2-1 to be area champs.”
The Pirates have 11 seniors graduating from this season’s team.
They are Ronny Garcia, Alexis Diosdado, Marcos Perez, Jason Rojas, Cristian Martinez, Jose Garcia, Luis Benitez, Bryan Barrios, Jose Trejo, Benjamin Espinosa, and Stewart Saunders.
Returning starters are Brian Bello, Efrian Cruz, Marco Trejo, Eric Ponce, and Kevin Ramirez.
