Pittsburg High tracksters headed to 4A regional meet

ATLANTA – Eight boys and four girls from the Pittsburg High track and field team advanced to the Class 4A Region 2 meet after their performances at the 4A area meet at Atlanta High School.
The top four finishers advance to the regional meet which is Friday and Saturday, April 28-29 at Texas A&M-Commerce.
Bradlee Warrick was the lone PHS trackster to bring home first-place medal. He won the shot put with a throw of 51 feet, 8 inches. Warrick also qualified in the discus with a throw of 142-7.75 – good enough for second place.
In the other field events, Keontae Burn finished fourth in the triple jump at 43-7.75.
Two girls -- Malaysia Burns and Marlisha Swain – qualified for regional in the field events. Burns (35-6) and Swain (34-10) finished 3-4, respectively, in the triple jump.
In the running events, the 4x200-meter relay team of Cade Busch, Deldric Shields, Cris Williams and Tate Palmer finished second with a time of 1:30.33.
Keontae Burns was third in the 400 dash at 51.95, while Jermaine Rogers took third in the 800 at 2:01.49.
Shaq Burton was fourth in the 100 dash at 11.19.
Sadie Waldrep qualified in two events. She took third in the 3,200 at 12:21.17 and fourth in the 800 at 2:31.66.
Emily Calderon was fourth in the 1,600 at 5:46.85.
On Friday, April 28, the trials for the field events start at 9 a.m. The 3,200-meter prelims are at 9 a.m., but the remaining prelims for the other running events begin at 5 p.m.
The top eight finishers advance to Saturday’s finals.
Waldrep and Rogers will run in the 800-meter run finals on Saturday at 4:15 p.m.
Also on Saturday, the finals for the field events are 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. starting with the girls’ triple jump and boys’ high jump. The boys’ triple jump finals are 1 p.m. and shot put finals at 1:30 p.m.
The running finals start at 4 p.m.
The top four finishers in each running event advance to the state meet on May 11-13 at the Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus in Austin.
