THSCA calls All-star game quits

For the first time in 80 years, there will be no Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star Games, the board of directors announced Thursday. At the December board of director’s meeting, the THSCA was informed of the decision from the NCAA Legislative  Relief Waiver Committee to deny the THSCA’s request for exemption from a new NCAA bylaw  which prohibits Division I college football coaches from attending or speaking at a convention that also has an all-star game affiliated with it. The denial from the  NCAA forced the board to eliminate an 80-year tradition of hosting all-star games, including  the football game which has been held since 1935. While there is a sentimental attachment to the all-star games, the board of directors said it was in the best interest of the THSCA to make sure its convention and coaching school remained a quality event.
