Pirates hope to rebound against Bears

By Cory Smith

After a painstaking, 26-25 loss against Pleasant Grove in the season opener, the Pirates will be looking to right the ship against Gladewater in the second game of the season.
Gladewater is coming off of a deep playoff run, where they lost to eventual state champion, Argyle in the regional finals game. The Bears won four consecutive games in the playoffs to mark Gladewater’s best season since 2001. However, the Bears will be coming into this season with a new man at the helm in longtime assistant John Berry, who takes over for the embattled Jerrod Baugh. Gladewater is led by a highly touted offense, sparked by tailback, James Reese who produced 1,700 yards on the ground last season. Other notable offensive talents are: Justice Centers (FB), Nick Canaguier (QB), and Marcello Jackson (ATH).
