Former Pittsburg resident named finalist for award

JaCorey Shepherd, a local native of East Texas has made the final cut for the 2014 Senior Class Award. He is the son of RoShunda Smith and the grandson of Wanda and Anthony Walker of Pittsburg. Mr. Sheperd spent his elementary years here in Pittsburg but graduated from John Horn High in Mesquite. He is currently a senior at the University of Kansas. The Senior Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School (CLASS) Award is intended to honor student athletes who excel both on and off the field in collegiate football. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character, and competition.
