Moon

Funeral services for Helen Frances Moon, 86, of Gilmer, were held on Jan. 8, at 2 p.m. at Simpsonville Baptist Church in Upshur County. Officiating was Bro. Richard Wells and C.W. Flewellen. Mrs. Moon was born Feb. 13, 1928 in Lindale and died Jan. 5 at her residence in Gilmer. Interment was held at Simpsonville Cemetery in Upshur County.

Jennings

William “Don” Jennings, 84, of Pittsburg, died Thursday, Jan. 8, at East Texas Hospice in Tyler. Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. at Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Pittsburg with the Rev. Kyle Smith and Randy Fennell officiating. Interment was held at Lafayette Cemetery in Upshur County. Mr. Jennings was born March 9, 1930 in Upshur County. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Pittsburg. He retired from the Air Force and Pilgrim’s Pride.

Services for Lois Evelyn Hill, 90, of Pittsburg, were held on Jan. 10, at 2 p.m. at Metropolitan Baptist Church. Interment was held at Center Point Cemetery.

Groce

Henry David “Cotton” Groce, 83, of Texarkana, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, at a Texarkana hospital. He was born Oct. 23, 1931, in Newsome. He was a warehouse maintenance worker for Shelby Racing. He is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Richard Elrod; two brothers and a sisterin- law, Claude Thomas Groce and James Richard and Helen Groce; a special nephew, Ricky Gibson; and a number of other nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Jane Elizabeth Ryan, 94, of Cason, were held on Jan. 6, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Cason. Officiating was Bro. Scott Darby. Mrs. Ryan was born April 1, 1920 in Cason and died Jan. 4 in Mount Pleasant. Interment was held at Blevins Cemetery in Cason.

Kirkley

Services for Jewell Littlefield Kirkley, 93, were held Jan. 5 at Erman Smith Funeral Chapel in Pittsburg, with Bro. Doyle Rust officiating. Interment was held at Ebenezer Cemetery in Camp County.
Mrs. Kirkley was born May 25, 1921 in Pittsburg and died Dec. 31, at East Texas Medical Center in Pittsburg. She was a member of Eaves Tabernacle Baptist Church in Camp County.
 
Survivors include: two sons, Bobby Littlefield of Bastrop, and Mark Littlefield of El Paso and her daughter: Nell Belanger of The Woodlands. 
Mrs. Kirkley was preceded in death by: her parents, Enoch and Ruth Thomas Wood; two husbands: Clyde Littlefield and Charles Kirkley; one brother: Luther wood; one sister: Julia Littlefield, and her son, Jerry Littlefield.

Howell

Memorial services for Francis Marion “Yank” Howell, 89, will be Jan. 10, at 11 a.m. at St. Laud’s Episcopal Church in Pittsburg.
Mr. Howell died on Dec. 31, in Pittsburg; he was born to the late Bryan and Vaughn Howell Nov.10, 1925. After serving in the US Navy from 1943-1946, and being awarded the Bronze Medal, He moved to Marshall, where he met and married Katherine “Kit” Thomas on Nov. 1947 and graduated from East Texas Baptist University in May 1952. Mr. Howell worked at Lone Star Steel from October 1953 to February 1979.   He later worked for Dorchester Oil, from 1981 to 1986.  In retirement, he was an avid golfer and enjoyed following sports, especially baseball and football. Mr. Howell was a loyal founding member of St. Laud’s Episcopal Church and he will be missed. 
 
He is survived by his son Stephen Thomas Howell and his wife Ann of Rowlett, and a granddaughter, Amanda Katherine Darr and her husband David of Katy.

Services for Johnnie Ruth Henderson, 67, were held on Jan. 3, at 1 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Pittsburg. Officiating was Rev. Patrick Lloyd. Mrs. Henderson was born Nov.  18, 1947 in Gilmer and died Dec. 27 at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. Interment was held at Reeves Chapel Cemetery in Pittsburg.

Quinn

Services for Lindley Merle Quinn, 73, were held Dec. 27 at First Baptist Church-Pittsburg, with Bro. Chris Reese and Pastor Todd Quinn officiating. Interment was held at The Quinn-Reese family Cemetery in Camp County. Mr. Quinn was born Aug. 25, 1941 in Upshur County and died Dec. 22 at ETMC-Pittsburg. He served in the National Guard and was a member of First Baptist Church-Pittsburg. He worked for TXU Energy for 18 years and was the owner and operator of Pilgrim’s broiler Houses for 15 years; he was an expert welder and hay producer.

Strube

Iwana Bowers Strube, 55, of Pittsburg, died on Dec. 23, at Titus Regional Medical Center in Mount Pleasant. Mrs. Strube was born on Oct. 15, 1959 in Muleshoe. Her graveside service was Saturday, Dec. 27 at 2 p.m. at Leesburg Cemetery with Bro. David Kizer officiating.
She is survived by her spouse, Martin Strube of Pittsburg; her mother, Dorothy L. Bowers of Mount Pleasant; two sons and a daughter- in law, Bradley and Michelle Strube, and Eric Strube of Pittsburg; three brothers and sisters-in-laws: Brent and Patricia Bowers of Copperas Cove, Perry and Donna Bowers of Mount Pleasant, and Matt and Rhonda Bowers of Mount Pleasant.
