Funeral services for Dorothy Inez White, 92, of White Oak, formerly of Pittsburg, were held on Jan. 23, at noon at Erman Smith Funeral Chapel in Pittsburg. Officiating was David Kizer. Mrs. White was born Aug. 11, 1922 in Titus County and died Jan. 20 at Treviso Skilled Nursing Home in Longview. Interment was held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Pittsburg.

Funeral services for Jerry V. Poole, 79, of Winnsboro, were held on Jan. 23, at 10 a.m. Officiating was Bro. Phil Greenawalt, Bro. Perry Shirley, and Bro. Tom Friday. Mr. Poole was born Sept. 14, 1935 in Wood County and died Jan. 20 at his residence in Winnsboro. Interment was held at Maple Springs Cemetery in Winnsboro.

Perren

Thomas Ray “Tommy” Perren, 81, of Lamar, Ark. died on Jan. 14, in Tyler. He was born April 16, 1933 in Texas City to the late John Thomas Perren and Birdie Lee Dannar Perren. After moving from Pittsburg he lived in Lamar, Ark. He worked as a brick layer. Mr. Perren is survived by three children, Eugene Perren of Pittsburg, Penny Wise of Pittsburg, and Billy Ray Perren of Lamar, Ark.; two sisters, Myrtle Alma Collier and Wanda Faye Dail; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Wilkinson and a brother, William Roy “Buddy” Perren.

Nicholson

Mary Ann Bailey Nicholson, 81, of Irving, died on Jan. 21, at Matlock Place in Arlington. Mrs. Nicholson wasborn on March 1, 1933 in Pittsburg. Her funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 24, at 2 p.m. at Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel and her interment was held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Pittsburg with the Rev. Steve Packer officiating. Mrs. Nicholson loved her family, enjoyed making holidays and birthdays special, gardening especially roses, reading, she was a marvelous cook and seamstress. She enjoyed going fishing and camping with her husband; going to their lake cabin at Cedar Creek Lake was a special retreat for them.

Funeral services for Charles Oscar Davis, 89, were held on Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Pittsburg. Officiating was the Rev. Terry Moton. Mr. Davis was born July 27, 1925 in Leesburg and died Jan. 17 at East Texas Medical Center Pittsburg. Interment was held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Leesburg.

Longtime Pittsburg icon passes away

Estelle Parker, a longtime Pittsburg icon passed away Jan. 15 at the age of 95.
On May 1, 1945 W.R. and Estelle Parker opened a plumbing business in the W.T. Knox building on Marshall Street. In June of 1947 they moved to Quitman Street where they added appliances and floor covering. They continued there until moving to the Maddox building in February of 1952. At that time furniture was added to the plumbing and appliance business, giving rise to Parker Furniture & Appliance.
In 1959 Parker Furniture moved to the present location at 117 Quitman St. after the A&P Company vacated the building which was built in 1896 by Charlie Morris.

Funeral services for Larry Owens, 71, of Pittsburg, were held on Jan. 16, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Cason. Officiating was Bro. Scott Darby. Mr. Owens was born April 24, 1943 in Jenkins and died Jan. 13.Interment was held at Snow Hill Cemetery in Cason.

Weeks

Tommy Nello Weeks Sr., 75, of Pittsburg, died on Jan. 6, at his residence in Pittsburg. Mr.Weeks was born on Aug. 22, 1939 in Boyle, Miss. His funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 10 at 1 p.m. at Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Pittsburg with Sister Lollie Madison and Bro. Steve Stasney officiating. Interment was held at Ebenezer Cemetery in Pittsburg.
Mr. Weeks served in the Army and worked in construction. He was the pastor at The Church of God of Prophecy in Tyler and Marshall; he also served as deacon, district overseer and taught Sunday school.

Robertson

John Davis Robertson, 88, of Pittsburg, died Friday, Jan. 9, at Titus Regional Medical Center in Mount Pleasant. Committal services were held Sunday, Jan. 11 at 10 a.m. at Erman Smith Funeral Home in Pittsburg with Caleb Ross, Jacob Ross and Mark Young officiating. Interment was held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Pittsburg.
Mr. Robertson was born March 31, 1926 in Camp County. He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Pittsburg; he served in the Navy and worked at Lone Star Steel. He is survived by his spouse of 66 years, Vivian Robertson of Pittsburg; his daughter and son-in-law, Karma and George Ross of Pittsburg; two grandchildren, Caleb Ross and Jacob Ross, and one great-grandchild, Averie Ross.
Mr. Robertson was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Robertson and Lila Vickers and one son, Kim Davis Robertson.

Palmer

Kenneth Ray Palmer, 66, of Pittsburg, died Jan. 6, at East Texas Medical Center in Pittsburg. Mr. Palmer was born on Aug. 23, 1948 in Dallas. He retired as a first sergeant after 20 years in the Army and worked for Dow Autoplex. Mr. Palmer loved to fish, dance, and always had a quick wit for his friends and family. Every person that knew him loved him. He is survived by his wife, Judy Palmer; his son and daughter-in-law, Mitchell and Jamie Palmer; his daughter: Louriee Palmer; two sons: Johnny Dillard and Michael Palmer, and nine grandchildren. Mr. Palmer was preceded in death by his former wife Janet Palmer and son, Kenneth Randall Palmer.
