Estelle Parker, a longtime Pittsburg icon passed away Jan. 15 at the age of 95.
On May 1, 1945 W.R. and Estelle Parker opened a plumbing business in the W.T. Knox building on Marshall Street. In June of 1947 they moved to Quitman Street where they added appliances and floor covering. They continued there until moving to the Maddox building in February of 1952. At that time furniture was added to the plumbing and appliance business, giving rise to Parker Furniture & Appliance.
In 1959 Parker Furniture moved to the present location at 117 Quitman St. after the A&P Company vacated the building which was built in 1896 by Charlie Morris.
