Walter Hart Carter, age 89, died Dec. 28. Born in Dennison on Nov. 21 1926 to Walter S. Carter and Marzelle Hart Carter, he was reared in Weatherford. Mr. Carter was a U. S. Marine, serving in the Pacific theater in World War II. After marrying Virginia Nell Shelby in 1945 and then graduating from Texas A&M University in 1949, he began a 44 year ranching career on the Lasater Ranch in Falfurrias. He moved with his family to Matheson, Colo., where he assisted in the Lasater’s Beef Master Herd development, then returned to Weatherford, where Mr. Carter managed the Cartwright Ranch. In 1962 he became manager of the John B. Stephens Ranch in Mount Pleasant, and later, he moved to the Broseco Ranch in Omaha, where he was Broventure’s vice president of cattle operations and an integral part of four other operations owned by Broventure in Texas. He retired from there in 1992.

Larry A. Renshaw, M.D., 83, a retired doctor of radiology, died Monday, Dec. 21, in Tyler. A graveside service, under the direction of Dr. Van Gardner, was at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Aurora Cemetery in Aurora. Family received friends from 12:30 -1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home. Larry was born on Aug. 6, 1932 to L. Wayne and Merle Margrette (Van Meter) Renshaw in Rhome. He was married to Carolyn Kay Ford on Aug. 18, 1975 in Portland, Ore. Dr. Renshaw served his country in the U.S. Navy and he was a radiologist.

Services for Deborah Kay Peek, 65, were held Tuesday, Jan. 5 at Erman Smith Funeral Home with interment in Rose Hill Cemetery. She was born Sept. 23, 1950 in Pittsburg. She died Saturday, Jan. 2, at East Texas Medical Center in Pittsburg. Mrs. Peek earned her bachelor’s of science and education degree at Stephen F. Austin State University and a master’s of education from e University of Texas at Tyler. She spent two years teaching kindergarten and 32 years as a rst grade teacher at Pittsburg Independent School District. She was a member of the Retired Teachers’ Association and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Services for Rosalyn Jennings, 81, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, at Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kyle Smith o ciating. Interment was in Lafayette Cemetery. She was born June 23, 1934 in Upshur County and died Sunday, Jan. 3 at her home in Pittsburg. She was survived by three sons, Garland Taylor and wife Charlotte of Pittburg, Ralph Taylor and wife Kristi of Mount Pleasant, Harlton Taylor and wife Ginger of Pittsburg; two daughters Myrna Cashatt and husband Denny of Mount Pleasant and Karen Fennell and husband Randy of Pittsburg.

James Paul Burks, 78, was born at home in the Brachfield community on Jan. 19, 1937. He went to celebrate Jesus’ birthday with Him on Friday, Dec. 25, 2015. His final days on earth were spent with us at the Hospice of East Texas in Tyler. James fought a brief, known battle with cancer, knowing what he faced. His childhood years were spent attending the Patrick School, helping with the dairy and country store his parents owned. When the school closed, he went on to graduate at Henderson High School, Kilgore College, and Letourneau College. He worked as a machinist at Merritt Tools in Kilgore, and in Houston. Twerlve years later he moved back to the Brachfield community, where he began raising Fleckwich Simmental and Brahmon cattle on his farm. He also began remodeling homes and building barns. He was well known in the Henderson area as a song leader at Ebenezer Baptist Church, and assistant leader at Maple Grove Baptist Church in Minden, and at Enterprise Baptist Church in Gary.

Bill Tucker, age 71, passed away peacefully at his home in Leesburg, surrounded by his family, Monday, Dec. 21. Robert was born Oct. 8, 1944 in Fort Benning, Ga. Robert served in the U.S. Army’s 25th Division “Tropic Lightning” during the Vietnam War. He survived the overrunning of Cu Chi Base Camp during the Tet Offensive and was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism during his service.

Services for Patricia Ann Townsend, 76, were held at the Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel Thursday, Dec. 24 with Bro. Larry Rice officiating. Interment was held in Leesburg Cemetery. Mrs. Townsend was born Nov. 26, 1939 in Pittsburg. She died Wednesday, Dec. 23 at Southern Wind Manor. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church and was a homemaker and a teacher’s aide for Pittsburg Independent School District for many years.

Graveside services for Carlene Jones, 63, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13 at Clyde Cemetery in Clyde. She was born Oct. 17, 1952 in Greenville and she died Dec. 9. She married William Jones in 1972 in Olden. She was a homemaker and a devoted mother. She is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Jones; one son, Stephen Glynn Jones; one daughter, Kristina Lari Hoyer; and two grandchildren; two sisters, Betty JoAnn Hardman and Dana Kathleen Philipp.

Christine Hill Boyd was born April 5, 1919 in Dallas. She graduated from Adamson High School and later St. Paul Nursing School as a Registered Nurse in 1943. She married Thomas Boyd of Grand Prairie in August of 1944; they later settled in Grand Prairie. Her nursing career began by working for Dr. William Colip, MD from 1952 to 1961 in Grand Prairie. The family moved to Wichita Falls in 1961 where Christine worked for the Wichita Clinic. Returning to Dallas in 1968, she was supervisor of the orthopedics department at Baylor Hospital until she retired in 1981. Christine and Tom moved to Hills Point in Pittsburg, which was once her brother’s farm. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Friendship Class in Pittsburg. Christine had a calling to use her nursing skills, so in her 80’s she went on medical missionary trips to Central America and the Philippines. In 2003, she was presented the Good Samaritan Award by the Camp County Texas Cooperative Extension.

Jessie Bernice Roberts Dodson, the youngest of three children, was born Aug. 30, 1919 at home in Holly Springs. She was the daughter of John Bert Roberts and Effie Hall Roberts. She was reared and educated in Holly Springs Ebenezer Community and died Dec. 4 at Pittsburg Nursing Center at the age of 96. Her husband of 42 years, Drebon Lavern Dodson, preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 1980 They were married in Camp County on Nov. 24, 1938. To this union were born two children, Patricia Ann and Rickey Joe. Bernice was a homemaker and long-time member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. She loved to cook and sew and play 42. She was preceeded in death by her husband, her parents, sisters Gladys Holcomb and Thelma Hicks and grandson Keith Townsend.
