Services for Juanita Jordan, 78, were held April 9 at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Bro. Doyle Rust and Bro. Chris Jones o ciating. Interment was in Leesburg Cemetery. She died Wednesday, April 6 at Titus Regional Hospital. She wsa born Jan. 7, 1938.

Services for Evertt Garrett, 93, were held Tuesday, Services for Evertt Garrett, 93, were held Tuesday, March 29 at the Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Virgil Faires o ciating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Mr. Garrett was born Sept. 22, 1922 in Pittburg and died March 25 at Southern Wind Manor. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran in World War II stationed in Italy. He was retired Pittsburg Postmaster for many years. S/Sgt. Clarence E. Garrett entered the U. S. Army in 1942, trained at Camp Kohler, Calif. Vancover Barracks Wash. and Camp Murphy, Fla. He served with the U. S. Army Air Corps in Ciampino, Italy, near Rome and Trinidad. He received ve bronze stars for participation in the Southern France, Western Germany, Rome-Arno, Appennine, and Po Valley campaigns. He was a radar operator, repairman, and trainer for the 64th Troop Carrier Group.

Our mother, Jacquelyn Grace Hess Spencer, passed away peacefully, in her sleep, March 5 at the age of 91. She was born Sept. 27, 1924, in Pittsburg. Jacquelyn’s parents were William Fred Hess and Della Elizabeth “Dutch” Ingram Hess of Pittsburg. A.D. Ingram, Jacquelyn’s grandfather was the preacher at the First Baptist Church of Pittsburg. Jacquelyn, “Tid”, grew up in Pittsburg. She and her friends played all over town. She held the title of “Miss Pittsburg High School” while attending there. Graduating from Dallas High School, she worked at Neiman Marcus in the millinery department modeling and selling hats. She attended Baylor studying art and art design. At her Uncle Roy Lockett’s drug store she worked the counter. Richard Spencer and his friends would go there a er school just to see such a pretty girl. She also worked for Dr. Lacy. Jacquelyn had many talents and hobbies. She loved to cook and was very good at it. She excelled at painting and drawing.

Mary J. Slater, 83, passed away Friday a ernoon, March 11, in Granbury. Graveside services were held at ursday, March 17 at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth. Mary Jo was born July 9, 1932, in Leesburg to Chester and Ometa Minnshaw Hanson. On April 9, 1949 she married Cli on O. Rushing; he preceded her in death. On Dec. 1, 1982 she married Bill Slater, who also preceded her in death. She worked many years in Fort Worth, and later Granbury, as an account manager and clerk in commercial insurance. A er retiring, she spent many years caring for homeless animals and traveling. Survivors include daughters, Beverly Reese and her husband David Andra of Norman, Okla, and Melody Yadon of Granbury; niece, Janet Belcher of Garland; grandchildren, Elizabeth Farrar and her husband Abraham of Moore, Okla; Clayton Yadon and his wife Megan of Glen Rose; nephew James Belcher; and great-grandchildren Keegan Farrar and Maddie Courtney Yadon.

Walter Eugene Allen, 90, of Pittsburg, Texas passed away at his residence on March 6, 2016. Walter was born August 21, 1925 on a small farm near Wylie. He was the youngest of eight children born to John Claude Allen and Elizabeth Elvire Odil Allen. His earliest memories include scratching out a meager existence off the farmland during the great depression. Two days before his 18th birthday Walter joined the United States Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific through the duration of World War II. Upon returning to the States he met the love of his life, Billie Joy Metcalf. An even more significant meeting was his encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ and his life was totally transformed. He and Billie Joy were engaged on August 17, 1946, he was baptized on the following day and they sealed the deal in marriage on January 17, 1947.

Services for Delores Margaret H. Reid, 83, were held at 11 on Saturday, March 12, at Bethel Baptist Church. She was born Nov. 21, 1932 in Chicago, Ill. and died Wednesday, March 9 at East Texas Medical Center in Pittsburg.

Services for Laverne Abernathy, 95, were held Saturday, March 12 at First UnitedMethodist Church with Rev. Hill Johnson officiating. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Erman Smith Funeral Home. Mrs. Abernathy was born in Perkins, Okla. on Oct. 31, 1920 and she died March 7 at East Texas Medical Center in Pittsburg. A devoted wife and mother, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She especially loved to travel and did extensively in the United States, the Caribbean and Canada. Bridge was a favorite pastime in her younger years and she was known for hosting parties at her home. She and her husband, D. H. Abernathy were married for 67 years. She was a member of the First UnitedMethodist Church in Pittsburg. She is survived by her sonW. David Abernathy; daughter, Mary Lou Spadling of Leonard; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Graveside services for Richard Reeves, 71, were held Wednesday, March 16 at Reeves Chapel Cemetery with Bro. Chris Jones officiating. He was born Oct. 16, 1944 in Pittsburg. He died Thursday, March 10 at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.

Services for Nathaniel D. Aldridge, 93, of Pittsburg, will be held on Saturday, March 19 at 1 p.m. at Pittsburg High School Auditorium with Elder Samuel Holmes officiating. Mr. Aldridge was born on Aug. 11, 1922 and died on March 9 in Dallas.

Terry was intentional about building character into those he invested in. As a brother, he was a role model teaching of friendships, loyalties, morals, work ethics and of life itself. As a father and at work, he taught that a job worth doing is worth doing right. He pursued his Lord and through his faith encouraged others. It was important to Terry to invest himself in others during their times of need and through this he made a significant impact on many lives. He was a listener who remembered what someone told him and always asked about their loved ones and concerns. Terry had an inherent gift for music (especially the piano) and enjoyed sharing his talent with others. He was loved and will be missed. Terry Dale Masters was born on November 23, 1947 in Lubbock to Kenneth Forest Masters and Claudell Roberts Masters. He graduated high school in Burleson, TX and graduated college from East Texas State University in Commerce, TX.
