Carter
Walter Hart Carter, age 89, died Dec. 28. Born in Dennison on Nov. 21 1926 to Walter S. Carter and Marzelle Hart Carter, he was reared in Weatherford. Mr. Carter was a U. S. Marine, serving in the Pacific theater in World War II. After marrying Virginia Nell Shelby in 1945 and then graduating from Texas A&M University in 1949, he began a 44 year ranching career on the Lasater Ranch in Falfurrias. He moved with his family to Matheson, Colo., where he assisted in the Lasater’s Beef Master Herd development, then returned to Weatherford, where Mr. Carter managed the Cartwright Ranch. In 1962 he became manager of the John B. Stephens Ranch in Mount Pleasant, and later, he moved to the Broseco Ranch in Omaha, where he was Broventure’s vice president of cattle operations and an integral part of four other operations owned by Broventure in Texas. He retired from there in 1992.
