Lt. Col. Dean Ralph Woodward (US Army Ret) died at home after a short illness on Feb 6. Born in Ingalls, Ark. in November 1924, “Woody” was the youngest child of Rufus and Cora (Clements) Woodward. Dean spent his youth working with his family on a pioneering tomato farm. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theater. During the Korean War, Dean served as a U.S. Army Officer whose duties also included an assignment at the White House. He had the honor to travel as Communications Officer with President Harry Truman on his “Whistle Stop Tour.” Dean later earned an Electrical Engineering Degree from Texas A&M University and worked in advanced technical communications at many Army posts both in the United States and Europe. He was honored for his distinguished service with the Army Commendation Medal.

Services for Bill Ray Bain, 71, were held Monday, Feb. 1 at First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg. Interment was in Lydia Cemetery in Avery. He was born Sept. 8, 1944 in Dallas and died Saturday, Jan. 30 at East Texas Medical Center in Pittsburg. He was in sales and marketing with Reliant Tools and a member of First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; one son, Scott Bain and wife Amy Calloway; one daughter, Amy Jo Bain and husband Lance Hughes; two grandchildren, Triston Bain and Dee McCulloch; step-grandchildren Kaitlyn Neal, Kaleign Neal, Jason Hand, Wesley Balentine and Jordan Balentine; one sister, Barbara Cone; step-son, Brent Neal and wife Patty; step-daughter, Holly Balentine and husband Aaron. He was preceded in death by his parents, J. W. Bain and Ina Modean Bain Campbell; step-father, Claude Campbell; and sister Barbara Cone.

Services for Sylvia Ann Marshall, 80, were held Tuesday, Feb. 2 at Macedonia Baptist Church with Bro. Randy Stracener officiating. Interment was in Macedonia Cemetery. She was born Nov. 21, 1935 in Pittsburg and she died Saturday, Jan. 30 at Titus Regional Medical Center in Mount Pleasant. She was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church. Survivors include her son Wayne, and wife Betty; a daughter, Linda Howell and husband Jackie; four grandchildren, Misty and Jake Proffitt, Casey and Kari Howell, Erin and Brittany Marshall and David and Whitney Marshall; 11 great-grandchildren: Dakota Durfee and Drake Proffitt; Tristan, Cameron, Aschton, and Slayton Howell; Bryclyn and Maverick Marshall, Hendrix Marshall, Kaden and Kenley Proffitt; one brother, Lawrence Sonny Turnage of Canton; and a nephew, Darrell Wayne Bassinger of Mount Pleasant.

Harold Lee Ford II, 64, of Dallas died Monday, Jan. 18. He was born on Sept. 3, 1951 in Tyler. Services will be held Saturday, Feb. 6 at St. Beulah at 11 a.m.

A memorial service, for Daniel James “D.J.” Haines, 90, was held at Monday, Jan. 18 at the First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg with Rev. Hill Johnson officiating. Interment was in Beggs Cemetery in Beggs, Okla. Mr. Haines died Thursday, Jan. 14 at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. Survivors include two sons, Daniel J. Haines II and Dale A. Haines and wife Jane; three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Jill, his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Melvin Dale Nunley, 41, of Scroggins, passed away Jan. 20, 2016 in Tyler. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Jan. 24 at Curry-Welborn Funeral Home at 3 p.m. with Rev. Jason Blakenship, Rev. Joe McCrary and Rev. Scott Darby o ciating. Interment will follow at the Adam’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 23 from 6-8 p.m. at Curry-Welborn Funeral Home. Dale was born April 11, 1974, in Pittsburg to Melvin O. and Kathy E. Carr Nunley. Dale grew up in Pittsburg and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1992. Dale married Tonya Beasley on Oct. 14, 2000 in Lone Star. He was a loving husband and devoted father.

Services for Mary Alice Allred, 87, of Pittsburg were held Monday, Jan. 25 at Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Steve Packer o ciating. Interment was in New Mine Cemetery in Camp County. Mrs. Allred was born Feb. 20, 1928 in Okmulgee, Okla. She died Friday, Jan. 22 at East Texas Medical Center in Pittsburg. She was a telephone operator and a member of First Baptist Church in Pittsburg. She is survived by her husband, George Allred of Pittsburg; one daughter, Anita Dvoracek and her husband Jim of Dallas; two sisters, Evelyne Shannon of West Columbia, Pat Latham of Oklahoma City, Okla.; four grandchildren, Chuck Sinks, Chad Sinks, Je Simmons, Sherri Bowman; eight great-grandchildren, Whitney Sinks, Chase Sinks, Lacy Sinks, Chance Sinks, Mac Simmons, Milo Simmons, Marshall Simmons and Annabel Bowman. Mrs. Allred was preceded in death by her parents, Charles H. Morgan and Osie Inez Crone Morgan; two brothers and ve sisters; and daughter, Ann Simmons. Vistation was from 10 a.m.

Services for Debbie Herman, 60, were held Tuesday, Jan. 26 at San Augustine City Cemetery in San Augustine with Dr. Steven Diaz o ciating. Mrs. Herman was born on Feb. 15, 1955 in Houston. She died on ursday, Jan. 21 at her home in Pittsburg. She is survived by her husband, Stephen Herman of Pittsburg; two sons, Richard “Tony” Lyons and Ryan White; one brother, Richard Wilkerson; one sister, Sheila Feemster; one grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Family received friends between 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 25 at Erman Smith Funeral Home.

Services for Betty Ann Harrel, 58, were held Saturday, Jan. 23 at First United Methodist Church with Revs. Ricky Ricks, Hill Johnson and Patrick Lloyd o ciating. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Pittsburg. Mrs. Harrel was born in Pittsburg on Jan. 23, 1957. She died Tuesday, Jan. 19 at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg and taught at Pittsburg Independent School District. She is survived by her husband, Dennis Harrel; three daughters, Amy and Shelli Harrel of Pittsburg, and Kristi Dubois and her husband Jordan of Longview; mother, Laverne Abernathy of Pittsburg; one brother, W. David Abernathy of Pittsburg; and one sister, Mary Lou Spradling of Leonard. She is preceded in death by her father, Mayor D.H. Abernathy. Pallbearers were Zac Harrel, Chase Hurlimann, Bobby Burgess, John Toole, Charles Harris and John Harris. Visitation was Friday, Jan. 22 at First United Methodist Church.
