Spencer

Our mother, Jacquelyn Grace Hess Spencer, passed away peacefully, in her sleep, March 5 at the age of 91. She was born Sept. 27, 1924, in Pittsburg. Jacquelyn’s parents were William Fred Hess and Della Elizabeth “Dutch” Ingram Hess of Pittsburg. A.D. Ingram, Jacquelyn’s grandfather was the preacher at the First Baptist Church of Pittsburg. Jacquelyn, “Tid”, grew up in Pittsburg. She and her friends played all over town. She held the title of “Miss Pittsburg High School” while attending there. Graduating from Dallas High School, she worked at Neiman Marcus in the millinery department modeling and selling hats. She attended Baylor studying art and art design. At her Uncle Roy Lockett’s drug store she worked the counter. Richard Spencer and his friends would go there a er school just to see such a pretty girl. She also worked for Dr. Lacy. Jacquelyn had many talents and hobbies. She loved to cook and was very good at it. She excelled at painting and drawing. She enjoyed planting pretty owers and having a pretty yard. She learned to sew and quilt. She made beautiful hand sewn quilts. She once made a quilt for Bill and Susan of “Days of Our Lives” upon their special request. Jacquelyn also loved reading good books. Dave and Jacquelyn were married Aug. 16, 1947, in Pittsburg at the Methodist Church. ey lived many places all over Texas. Jacquelyn was a loving wife and mother to her three children, Gary, Mandy, and Fred. She played games, attended games, entertained friends, cooked meals, healed the hurts and pains and earned the love of her children and husband. In their later years, they returned to the Pittsburg area to live out their lives on the Spencer farm, where Dave grew up. It is on Ferndale Road, known as the Yellow Bush community, where Dave was self-proclaimed mayor. Dave and Jacquelyn were married 64 years. ey were members of Greer Blvd. Church of Christ in Pittsburg. Jacquelyn was a gentle, loving soul. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave C. Spencer, a sister, “Patty” Hess Gaither, a brother, Wm. “Billy” Hess, and twin brother, Jack “Bubba” Hess. She is survived by three children and their spouses; Gary and Patti Spencer of Bluewater, N.M, Fred and Denise Spencer of “Yellow Bush”, Pittsburg, Mandy and Bill Carr of Sautee Nacoochee, Ga.; eight grandchildren; Trent and Lynda Spencer, Tara and Curtis LaRue, Christi and Jonathan Moss, Spencer and Nancy Carr, Emily and Brian Crosby, Quentin and Erica Carr, Andy and Susan Spencer, and Bonnie Spencer, and 20 great-grandchildren. Virgil Faires o ciated the graveside services at Simpsonville cemetery by Erman Smith Funeral Home on March 8. Fred Spencer, John Richard Spencer, and Dr. Jay Spencer gave loving, farewell words at the service.Dave and Jacquelyn were the most open and sharing people. At di erent time and under di erent circumstances, Ralph and Lou, Bubba, Dutch, Patty, Durwin, Richard, Gary, Patti, Trent and Linda, Courtney, Kayla, Tara, Christi, Bill, Mandy, Spencer, Emily, Quentin, Fred, Denise, Bonnie and Richie lived with them. ey spoke with fond memories of each stay. At one time, with sadness in her heart, Mom said nobody else could live with them because it was too heartbreaking when they le . However, she changed her mind many times.
