Abernathy

Services for Laverne Abernathy, 95, were held Saturday, March 12 at First UnitedMethodist Church with Rev. Hill Johnson officiating. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Erman Smith Funeral Home. Mrs. Abernathy was born in Perkins, Okla. on Oct. 31, 1920 and she died March 7 at East Texas Medical Center in Pittsburg. A devoted wife and mother, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She especially loved to travel and did extensively in the United States, the Caribbean and Canada. Bridge was a favorite pastime in her younger years and she was known for hosting parties at her home. She and her husband, D. H. Abernathy were married for 67 years. She was a member of the First UnitedMethodist Church in Pittsburg. She is survived by her sonW. David Abernathy; daughter, Mary Lou Spadling of Leonard; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Effie Clark; her husband D. H. Abernathy; daughter, Betty Ann Harrel; two sisters, Maxine Martin and Thelma Holman. Honorary pallbearers were Don Reynolds and Claude Winston. Pallbearers were Jonh Harris, Charles Harris, John Toole, Brian Toole, Simon Toole, Jackby Burgess, and David E. H. Abernathy.
