Lions Club donates for holidays

The season of giving is here and the Lions Club tapped into that spirit when they recently donated over $1000 between the Pittsburg Nursing Center and Assisted Living.
Jennifer Parrish, Administrator of the Pittsburg Nursing Center and a new member of the Lions Club, recommended the idea of donating to the elderly this holiday season.
“I thought it would be a wonderful idea for the residents who are without family or loved ones during the holiday season. It would be a way to make them feel special and remembered for Christmas.”
Six hundred and fifty dollars was donated to the Pittsburg Nursing Center, and with that donation, Parrish said the staff will go out and Christmas shop locally for the residents.

Resident gets out of burning house with the help of close neighbor

The Pittsburg Fire Department responded to a residence fire this weekend. Fire Chief Carl Cravey released information on the fire.
“The resident Jewel Ray Ivory, was very fortunate,” Cravey said. “If his neighbor hadn’t noticed the smoke coming from the house and came right over, the resident could have died.”
According to Chief Cravey the department responded to the fire on county road 2114 at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7.
The fire appeared to have started from the resident’s wood burning stove.
Cravey said the resident had laid down for a nap, and it wasn’t until he heard his neighbor’s truck pulling up that he woke and saw the house was on fire. The neighbor had noticed smoke coming from the house and drove over to check and see if everything was okay.

TXDOT urges safe driving

As a reminder to keep the holidays happy and safe, the Texas Department of Transportation is urging Texans to give themselves and others the gift of a sober ride as they make the rounds to their seasonal celebrations.
To raise awareness, TxDOT’s Sober Ride Sleigh — a donated holiday-decorated limousine with a giant bow on top — is visiting select cities, making stops at shopping malls, popular landmarks, parades and other events to encourage the gifts of safety and sober driving.
“When it comes to the holidays, planning is everything,” said Phil Wilson, TxDOT executive director. “The best holiday planners make exhaustive checklists as they prepare for the perfect party or favorite holiday meal.
Planning for a sober ride is no different. This year, a sober ride should be on every holiday to-do list.”
