Douglass Center All City dance brings entertainment

The first ever All City Christmas Dance held at the Douglass Community Center, and hosted by the Class of 1972, had music, food and a night of memories.
The entrance of the event was decorated with a nativity scene and the large Christmas tree.
DJ, the Madd Doctor Robert Heath, controlled the music for the event.
Along with dancing, the evening  included prize giveaways, raffles and gifts of fresh poinsettias.
A buffet was also served.
The attendees were a range of folks including Class of 1972 members.
Local alumni, alumni from Dallas and Houston, ex-citizens returning home to celebrate the holiday, and a smattering of city officials and party-goers.
During the evening, the dancers treated one another to hat dances, individual renditions, and the ever present Soul Train line was a big hit.
This event promises to be just one of many wonderful experiences to be had at the Douglass Community Center.

Student becomes the teacher

Northeast Texas Community College welding instructor Marcos Sanchez has come a long way since moving to the United States from Argentina at age 10.
The Pittsburg resident, now 25, spoke no English when he moved to the area in 2000. He immersed himself in American culture and quickly caught on like a native speaker. He graduated in the top 25 percent of his class at Pittsburg High School in 2007.
After weighing his options, Sanchez decided to enroll at NTCC after graduation. Though welding had been a part of his life for many years, it wasn’t something he was considering as a long-term career.

Rotary Club and Interact kids bring in Christmas cheer by delivering food baskets to families in need

By Lauren Shortnacy
The Rotary Club and Interact Students group brought in the Christmas cheer a little early by delivering food baskets to families and residents of Pittsburg in need.
Distributing to 125 families this year, the items delivered included flour, sugar, canned goods, dried pastas and any other non perishable item.
Brookshires also teamed up with Rotary and donated a coupon for a hen for each family receiving the baskets.
Rachel Miner, community service officer and director of Rotary believed delivering these baskets to families in need, was the best way to celebrate Christmas.
“I believe it is important to do this with these kids so they can be thankful for what they do have that others may not have,” Mrs. Miner said.

New phone schemes are circulating in area; police say hang up phone

By Marlene J. Bohr

If you received a call that your grandson was in trouble and needed money, you would probably react as this East Texas woman did.
June John received a call from an ‘unknown number,’ and the person at the other end played out the scenario that it was her grandchild calling.
The man on the phone playing her grandson told her he was in Ecuador and needed money.
He gave a scenario of why he was there with a friend and caught a ride to the airport with someone.
They were stopped by the police who found drugs in the car, and she was told her grandson was jailed along with the driver. She was instructed to send $1,000 by Western Union to get him out of jail.
