Reindeer family fun run

The Pittsburg High School senior class will host a Reindeer Family Run/Walk on Thursday, Dec. 19 at 6 p.m.
The run/walk will begin and end at Smith Furniture and the route will go through downtown Pittsburg.
There will be music and entertainment along the route. Everyone is encouraged to dress festive for the run/walk.
Prizes will be awarded  to the participants that dress the most festive for the event. Medals will be given to the first male and female finishers.

Class of 1972 hosts All City Christmas Dance

The magic of the Christmas season comes to Douglass Community Center on Dec. 21, beginning at 9:00 p.m.   Don’t wait a moment longer to plan your holiday getaway to the Douglass Community Center.  You have never seen the building with this kind of festive holiday decorations, including lights, nativity scenes, and jolly St. Nick himself.   The Class of 1972 announces the All City Christmas Dance.
 Pittsburg is due for an adult entertainment bonanza and we’ve put together a Christmas bash for the entire city and region that will bring Christmas cheer, fun for all, and will add a touch of elegance to your holiday season.  This will be the best excuse to dress up in a long time!
This is the first year of what promises to be an annual event.  It surely will be an evening to remember as a night of glamour and entertainment.  Everyone twenty-five and over in the East Texas area should plan to attend this event.

Rural microentreprenuers are sought

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has announced the availability of loan and grant funds to support rural microentrepreneurs and microenterprises.  
“By supporting very small business enterprises through the Rural Microentrepreneur Assistance Program, USDA has been able to direct assistance to small firms that otherwise might not be able to obtain credit,” said Mr. Vilsack. “This program has shown that even a modest investment of federal dollars can have a huge impact for the local economy in small towns across rural America.”

All-Star Insurance opens

All-Star Insurance Group, Inc., a full service, independent insurance agency, is pleased to announce the opening of their newest office, located inside First National Bank in Pittsburg.
First National Bank location president Joe Harwell says the new insurance office will provide convenience for the bank’s customers.
“We want to be a one stop shop for our clients by providing banking and insurance services all under one roof,” said Mr. Harwell.  
All-Star Insurance has appointed Jackson Boyd of Pittsburg as the managing agent for the new office inside First National Bank.
Mr. Boyd comes to All-Star Insurance after two years with Farmers Insurance in Pittsburg, and State Farm Insurance in Daingerfield.

Texas FFA membership hits a record 100,000

The Texas FFA Association announced that its membership hit an unprecedented, all-time high mark. The agricultural based organization announced its membership hit 100,000 in early November, a record high mark for any state FFA association in the organization’s 85-year history.
Lane Marbach, of West High School in Victoria, became the Texas FFA’s 100,000th member when he was submitted into the organization’s electronic roster system at 3:26 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1. Marbach, a freshman at Victoria West High School, is a first-year member and is raising a pig to show later this spring.
Current membership stands at 101,632 a 6.7% membership increase over last year’s final membership figure, and a 38,665 member increase since 2009 when the organization began its current growth spurt.

What's Happening

This weekend is full of events for the City of Pittsburg to enjoy.

On Dec. 12, Peoples network Luncheon at NTCC Hanson-Sewell Center will begin at noon, the Annual Christmas Parade will begin at 6 p.m., and Carols in the Park at First United Methodist Church 109 College St. will be from 6-9 p.m (Carols in the Park will be Dec. 12-15).

On Dec. 14, Los Pinos Winter Wine event will start at 7 p.m. and will last until 11 p.m., and the Pittsburg Library will be having a morning full of Holiday stories for the children starting at 10 a.m.

March election candidates listed

The list for the Republican and Democratic County candidates for the March elections is continuing to grow and the candidates running are as follows:
Incumbent Thomas Cravey will be running for County Judge, Incumbent Elaine Young will be running for County Clerk, Incumbent Teresa Bockman and Melisa Tidball will be running for District Clerk and Incumbent Bobby Carpenter will be running for Justice of the Peace.
For treasurer, Incumbent Kim Pittman will be running and Incumbent John McNutt will be running for surveyor.
For Commissioner Precinct 2, Incumbent Steve Hudnall will be running. For Commissioner Precinct 4 Incumbent Steve Lindley will be running.
Vernon Griffin will be running for the Democratic side of Commissioner Precinct 4
Candidates wishing to run have until Dec. 9 to get their names on the ballots.

No new information found for city and county burglaries

No new information is available from the police department on an aggravated robbery which occurred Saturday, Oct. 27 at approximately 9:24 p.m. on Quitman Street. A victim reported to police officers that a black female, described as short and stocky. With a skinny black male, entered the a residence and displayed a handgun. After striking the victim in the head, the subjects stole a television along with other items.
   In other law enforcement news, officers are being called to several locations of reported burglaries in the city and county.
   A burglary was reported Nov. 23 at 741 CR 1260 where a door was kicked in and evidence was found in the driveway. Damage to the door was reported and officers are going to provide patrols.
