Pittsburg inches to a National listing

Camp County will have more than five dozen buildings listed on the National Register if the nomination is approved.

The State Board of Review unanimously voted to approve the National Register nomination for the Pittsburg Commercial Historic District at their meeting Jan. 19. The nomination must still be reviewed and approved by the National Park Service, but Carlyn Hammons with the Texas Historical Commission, said, “We are almost there.” The board members requested a few minor revisions to the nomination. When Ms. Hammons, a historian with THC’s history programs division, and Leslie Wolfenden, project design assistant with the Texas Main Street Program, complete the revisions, the nomination will be forwarded to Mark Wolfe for his signature. Mr. Wolfe is the State Historic Preservation Officer and executive director of the Texas Historical Commission. It then will be mailed to the Keeper of the National Register in Washington, D.C. Upon receipt of the nomination, the National Park Service has 45 days to take action on the nominated property.
