County Judge speaks to extension group

The annual County Extension Service and the Texas Farm Bureau dinner was held Tuesday, Oct. 24, in the First Baptist Church Family Life Center. The Dinner is a joint venture of the County Extension and the Farm Bureau. There were around 100 in attendance.

Usually the county extension agent addresses the gathering, however since our agent has moved to another county, County Judge A. J. Mason was invited to speak to the assembly. He began his remarks with some anecdotes from his DPS trooper days. Then he got into the meat of his speech.

Styles, Chapa recognized by school board

The School board presented awards to Coach Chris Styles and Transportation Secretary Holly Chapa for their quick and heroic efforts after the recent bus accident on Highway U.S. 271, Thursday, Oct. 17. Mrs. Judy Pollan the superintendent of Pittsburg ISD, praise both individuals for their cool and efficient handling of this emergency situation. See last week’s paper for the full story.

Vienna Boys Choir to perform at Whatley Center

The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College will host the Vienna Boys Choir on Monday, Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. One of the oldest boys choirs in the world, it was founded in 1498 and has since delighted audiences around the world with music new and old.

Visitors from the United Kingdom visit Museum

Aviation enthusiast and balloonist from Briton visited the Camp County Museum to specifically see the Ezekiel Airship. The couple, Andrew and Caroline Gibson, from Manchester, England. The Gibson’s are the former directors of The British Balloon Museum and Library in Milton Keynes, and members of the British Balloon and Airship Club, which has members throughout the United Kingdom. The British Balloon Museum and Library record information relating to all lighter than air events worldwide.

Milton Keynes, is just north of Bletchley, England. Bletchley is the home of the famous Bletchley Park, where the British codebreakers cracked the German military code in WW II. Central Milton Keynes is the central business district of Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, England.

Two child pornography suspects arrested

Christopher Joseph Daigre, 31, of Pittsburg was arrested in March 2016 and charged with possession of child pornography, a third degree felony.

“At that time, the Camp County Sheriff ’s Department assisted the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the execution of two search warrants in the Thunderbird Point community,” Sheriff Alan Mc- Candless said. “The search warrants were executed at two different residences on unrelated cases.”

Pittsburg High School Marching Band receives all 1’s at contest

The Pittsburg High School Pirate Band placed a “One” in its performance in the UIL Competition held in Mount Pleasant, Tuesday, Oct 17. The Band also received a One for the Drum Major, and a One for Percussion.

Cypress Bank celebrates 40th anniversary Oct. 25

Dreams became a reality for the founding directors of Cypress Bank when they held an open house at the new location Friday, Jan. 6, 1978. It was then called Cypress Savings and Loan then and located at 336 Greer Blvd. where it stands today. The bank will celebrate its 40th anniversary on Wednesday, Oct. 25 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Pittsburg location.

Bullard Johns was at the helm of the organization being the chairman of the board and Craig Chesley was the president.

PHS Theater presents “The Mousetrap” on Oct. 24, 26, and 28

Pittsburg High School Theater will be beginning their 2017 - 2018 season with three performances of “The Mousetrap” by Agatha Christie under the direction of Jeffrey Stirl.

Performances will be held on Oct. 24, 26 and 28 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $3 in advance and $5 at the door. The play will be at the Pittsburg High School auditorium.

NTCC invites community to Campus Dedication event

The community is invited to join Northeast Texas Community College for a Campus Dedication event as it celebrates the completion of a major renovation project. The event will be held Thursday, Oct. 26 on the main campus plaza from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with remarks at 12:15 p.m. Lunch will be provided and guests are encouraged to explore the campus and check out the many changes implemented over the past two years.
