Stolen truck is recovered by sheriff’s deputies

By SUSAN TAFT Contributor to The Pittsburg Gazette

A pickup, stolen from a parking lot in February, was located by the Camp County Sheriff ’s Department in 45 minutes with help from the vehicle’s GPS system. “The complainant went in the business to have coffee about 9 a.m. and realized he had left his phone in his truck. When he went outside to get the phone, he discovered his truck was missing,” Sheriff Alan McCandless said. “Deputy Clay Hefner spoke to someone at the car dealership where the vehicle was purchased and was told the last signal they had was at 9:27. She indicated she was unable to get a response at the time Deputy Hefner called because the battery was disconnected; however, the last signal indicated the truck was in the area of County Road 2412.” Deputy Bo Tucker and Deputy Brayden Hooper were notified, and after a brief search the vehicle was located.

Pirates get huge surprise as football camp begins

By ELLIS KNOX reporter@campcountynow.com

Pittsburg Pirate Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Brad Baca and the football coaching staff welcomed over 50 young men to the first day of Spring Football Boot Camp. Coach Baca also had a big surprise for the team brand new Nike shoes. The Westlake, Austin, Chaparrals football team, 6A Region II District 14 Champions and 2015 State runner-up for 6A football, buy all their equipment from Nike. When Nike found out they hadmade the 6A state playoffs they sent the team 70 pair of new cleats to wear in the game. However, there are 110 members of the Westlake football team and there were not enough shoes to go around. So the Westlake senior football captains suggested to the Head Coach Todd Dodge they not use the cleats but donate them to a numerically smaller team.
