A surprise all day visit to the Camp County Jail snagged a letter of excellence to the Camp County Sheriff ’s Office and certification of compliance. In the congratulatory letter dated March 2, 2016 from the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, “your facility is an example of dedication and professionalism inmaintaining a safe, secure, and sanitary facility.” “The most recent inspection of your facility on March 1, 2016 by Texas Commission on Jail Standards Inspector Fred St. Amant, has demonstrated your facility is in compliance with Texas Minimum Jail Standards,” Brandon S. Wood, executive director wrote. Camp County Sheriff Alan D. McCandless was at the meeting Monday morning and received praise from commissioners. “The inspector also did training with the new chief jailer,” Sheriff McCandless said. “We had been expecting them for a couple of months but they were a little more thorough than usual. There were a couple of minor maintenance situations which were repaired immediately,” Sheriff McCandless said. “The jail is a significant item in our budget and we appreciate all you over there,” County Judge Thomas Cravey said. Commissioners discussed the request of the proposal for Camp County Bank Depository. Bids are expected to be opened in a special called meeting of the Commissioners’ Court on March 29 at 10 a.m.
