Primary students participate in the Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart fund

Students at Pittsburg Primary School participated in the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart fund raising campaign. They earned $2,329.77 to help ght heart disease in our country. The Pittsburg Primary School participated in the American Jump Rope for Heart event during the month of February. The kids jumped rope during their P.E. time at school and raised a total of $2360.22. The top two fund raisers are Braydon Hargett, top fundraiser, and runner-up, Kherington Jo Baca.

Pittsburg rodeo is May 12-17; sign up deadline is March 31

The fifty- fifth year’s rodeo is scheduled for the weekend of May 12, 13, and 14. e rodeo is presented by the Pittsburg Rodeo Association, and is a non-pro t organization for the bene t of what the Association President Bubba Samples calls “Handy-Capable” special needs children.

March 25 Passion Service The Pine Bu Baptist Church is announcing the Passion Service will be held on Good Friday at 7 p.m. at the Metropolitan Baptist Church at 219 Clayton, Pittsburg and the sunrise service will be held at the same location at 7 a.m. on Easter Sunday.

March 26 Musical Myrtle Springs C.M.E. church will be sponsoring a musical on Saturday, March 26 at 6 p.m. Directions are as follows: Go 6 miles south on 556, take a right onto County Road 2455, 3 miles down take right onto County Road 1634 then right to County Road 1734. e church will be on the right hand side.

Sewell leads computer courses at PISD schools

Parker Sewell led a computer science course for Pittsburg Junior High and high school students from March 14-17. Mr. Sewell is a second-year management information systems major in the McCombs School of Business at e University of Texas at Austin. He is the son of Keith and Anna Sewell. Twelve students participated in the course, with the majority of them being from the high school. e students learned the programming language Python, along with basic logic.

• Residents near the Union Paci c railroad crossing on Mattison Street were awakened around 4:30 last Wednesdaymorning when two empty boxcars derailed.

• Three men were arrested last week in connection with the burglary of 11 churches in East Texas. One of the burglaries occurred at Antioch Baptist Church on Farm-to- Market Road 1975 in Camp County.

• Amanda Sample and Amanda Koller, FFA students at Pittsburg High School, recently participated in competition at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

• Kaden Allen Pro tt, 6, caught a 7 pound, 5 ounce bass while shing with his Paw Paw Skeeter Pro tt on Lake Cypress Springs.
