Eagle Scout nishes project for Pittsburg Nursing Center

Boy Scout Judah Samuel Byars, of Troop 101 of Mt. Pleasant, with the help of his troop has completed his Eagle Project for the Pittsburg Nursing Center. Scout Byar’s and members of Troop 101 built raised garden beds for the residents of the Pittsburg Nursing Center. “Pittsburg Nursing Center would like to congratulate Judah Samuel Byars on completing this project to earn his Eagle Scout rank and Troop 101, also thank you Texas Country Farm Supply of Pittsburg for your considerable donation.

The Abernathy house gets Texas historical recognition

After three long years of research and documentation, Pittsburg’s most notable Queen Anne Victorian Style home, on the southwest corner of Quitman and Texas, will be recognized on Friday, April 8 for historical state recognition. Kevin and Neoma Twining are the owners of the two-story home a er purchasing in 1999. The commemorative day will involve many local leaders, dignitaries and state and local media outlets as well as 100 seated guests on the lawn of the home. VIP speakers will include Mayor Shawn Kennington, David Abernathy speaking for the family about the history of the home, and David Grundish.

Prosecutor to evaluate car crash on Cypress

No arrest has been made, but a criminal investigation is now underway a er Pittsburg Police O cers responded to the 500 block of Cypress Street Friday, March 18 at 11:01 in reference to a motor vehicle crash which took out much of the power on the west side of town. According to Police Chief Richard Penn the case will be presented to the prosecutor this week. Based on the o cers’ investigation, a 2006 Dodge pickup driven by Joe Linwood 53, of Pittsburg, was travelling north on Cypress Street when it le the roadway striking a utility pole. e vehicle then continued to travel on private property striking a chain link fence before stopping. Two buildings, one owned by the Pittsburg Independent School District, were damaged as a result of the crash also. Linwood was transported to ETMC Pittsburg by ambulance, according to Chief of Police Richard Penn.

Accident by hospital early Wednesday, March 23

Early Wednesday morning, March 23, a two car collision occurred at the corner of U. S. 271, and Camp Road 4114 that runs on the south side of the East Texas Medical Center. Margarita De Gutierrez, driving the silver car pulled into traffic from the stop sign at CR 4114 after waiting on another car to pass on U. S. 271, and did not see Rachael West’s black car in a blind spot in the inside lane.

Registered sex offender charged

Christopher Joseph Daigre, 29, of Pittsburg, has been arrested and charged with possession of child pornography, a third degree felony. Daigre is a registered sex offender. “On March 17, the Camp County Sheriff’s Department assisted the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the execution of two search warrants,” Sheriff Alan McCandless said.

School Board approves 2016-17 calendar

The Pittsburg School Board met in regular session Monday, March 22 and approved the calendar for 20162017 school year. Assistant Superintendent Beth Anne Dunavant, reported a change in the way the state requires the school days to be con gured. Instead of days, the new school year must be gured in minutes. Texas House Bill (THB) 2610 was passed during the last state legislative session and must go into the effect in the next school year, 2016-17. “House Bill 2610 changed the way children in Texas go to school fromdays to minutes. So for this coming school year its 75,600 minutes of school rather than 180 days that it has been in the past,” Mrs. Dunavant said. The legislature worked it out this way: 420 minutes = 7 hours = 180 days. is includes intermissions, recess, and lunch.

There will be a Camp County High School Bass Club Bass Tournament At Barefoot Bay Marina, Lake Bob Sandlin, Saturday April 2, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. Entry fee is $60. Entry fee is $40 if one member of team is a registered high school angler. Winnings include 80 percent payback to top three teams, $10 Big Bass Pot.
