• Approximately 3,000 people descend on Camp County for the rst race of the Texas Cross Country Racing Association at Prairie Creek Ranch.

• For the rst time in over ve decades, D.H. Abernathy’s name did not appear on a city ballot. Mr. Abernathy served as Pittsburg’s mayor for 52 years. Prior to that, he served on the city council for ve years. Mr. Abernathy signed up to run but then withdrew his name.

Guaranty opens location in Denton

Guaranty Bancshares, Inc., parent company of Guaranty Bank & Trust (Guaranty), announces plans to open a full service location in Denton. Jeremy W. Fykes has joined Guaranty as Denton Market President a er having served the nancial needs of Denton County residents and businesses since 2001 at another local nancial institution. Additionally, Tara Ashby has joined Guaranty and will be assisting Jeremy with opening of the new Denton location. When opened, Guaranty’s new Denton location will be the Bank’s 25th full service facility. Guaranty will open in a temporary facility located in Woodhill Square, 1100 Dallas Drive, Suite 100 during the rst quarter of 2016, with a permanent site to be identi ed shortly therea er.

Valentine’s Day wreck

This two vehicle accident was at the intersection of FM 1520, Old Pistol Mill Rd. and Camp Road 2318, Coke Rd. The accident was reported Sunday night, 02/14, at 06:01 P.M. The blue truck t-boned the white truck and both ended up in the ditch. Pittsburg Fire and Rescue Engine No. 1 responded, along with a Camp County EMS ambulance. The driver of the white truck was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. The driver of the blue truck was uninjured.No further information was available at press time.

Kid’s annual fishing day

Hayes (sitting) and Harbour (standing) are getting ready for the Kids’ Fishing Day that is just around the corner. Council takes bold action to improve city

Taking an aggressive approach to put Pittsburg on the map, the city council is launching a new “overlay” ordinance that will help clean up and x up Highway 271 within the city limits and writing another ordinance to lure the lm industry to Pittsburg. A new zoning “overlay,” under the current ordinance in place, is being amended on Highway 271 speci cally to and from each city limit sign to spur new business on that stretch of highway. e Pittsburg City Council met Monday, Feb. 8 and approved the first reading of the ordinance.
