Pirate Basketball started with a win

By ELLIS KNOX

The Pirates began their season Tuesday, Nov. 28 in the “old Gym” with a win by squeezing out the Kilgore Bulldogs by two points, 52 to 50. Both teams were pretty much evenly matched in speed, height and jumping ability. The Pirates might have been a bit faster, but seemed to be hampered by a bit of confusion in the first quarter. The Pirate team has gotten in very little practice as practically 60 percent of the team played football up until 11 days before this game. By the second quarter they began to gel somewhat and at the half were only down three points.

Pirates end 2017 season in Bullard

By ELLIS KNOX

The Pirates season ended in their first playoff game with the Rusk Eagles 48 to Pitts’ 7. The Eagles dominated the game scoring almost at will. It was a sad game to watch as nothing seemed to work. Quarterback Jaylon Jimmerson was intercepted four times and it was all down-hill from there. The box scores tell the story.

Pirates to play Rusk in first playoff game

By ELLIS KNOX

With the Pirates loss to the Buckeyes, the Pirates fall to third place and will be matched with the Rusk Eagles. Rusk is in second place in Region Eight. The way this works is the top team of a particular district plays the fourth team of the other district. The winners move on to the next round of play until the state finals. The winner of that game is the state champ of the class. In this case, it will be the Class 4A state champs.

The Eagles are 8-2 in regular season play. Their only loss in district play was to Jasper. Pitt was fourth last year so we played Region Eight’s district’s winner, Jasper. Jasper knocked out Pittsburg in the first playoff game last year.
