Cole Kilburn Named to the All- State Academic Swim Team

Pirate Swimmer Cole Kilburn, Cole is the son of Kim Koleburn-Knocke and Jeff Kilburn, qualified for the State swim meet, won two gold medals in the 100 meter freestyle and 100 meter backstroke in the 16-5A District meet. Cole was also named the 2018 16- 5A Swimmer of the Year. Now he has been named to the All-State Academic Swim Team.

Sydney advances to the Premier Performer Contest to be held at Stephen F. Austin University, May 5.

Pitt Catcher Brett McGee signs with S. Ark. U.

Pirate starting senior catcher and pitcher Brett McGee has signed a letter of intent to play baseball for Southern Arkansas University (S.A.U.) located in Magnolia, Ark. Mc- Gee is the son of Eric and Kelly McGee of Pittsburg. Head Baseball Coach Tommy Stewart, spoke highly of Brett on and off the field. Not only does he start as varsity catcher but is also a quality pitcher. He signed with S.A.U. as a catcher, and has been encouraged by the S.A.U. head coach to go for the starting catcher position as a freshman.

Lady Pirates fall short in district playoffs

The Lady Pirates fell to Pleasant Grove and Atlanta in the District Playoffs, Friday April 20. The Lady Pirates drew a bye in a coin toss to play the winner between softball teams Pleasant Grove and Atlanta at 11:00am. Pleasant Grove won and the Lady Pirates then played Pleasant Grove the first at 1:00pm. Pleasant Grove won 8 to 6, on 18 hits to Pitts’ 15.

Sydney Reynolds was the losing pitcher for the Lady Pirates. She gave up four runs on 12 hits over five innings, striking out two and walked two. Makayla Jones relieved in the sixth, and surrendered six hits, four runs, struck out none and walked one.

Pirate Soccer eliminated from playoffs

The Pirate soccer team drew a Bye in the Bi-District round in the Boys Soccer 4A, Region 2 and 4 playoffs. In the Area playoff game the Pirates lined up with the Henderson Lions. The Lions won in the first round against Mineola and winning that game 2-0.

Lady Pirates Softball loses to Pleasant Grove

The Lady Pirates dropped their second round game with Pleasant Grove losing 8-3. The Pleasant Grove Lady Hawks jumped ahead in the bottom of the first by two runs making the score 4-2. The game went scoreless until the fifth when both teams put up one run each, 5-3.

The Lady Pirates couldn’t get a rally start in the top of the sixth or the seventh. The Lady Hawks scored three more runs in the bottom of the sixth making it 8-3 and that’s the way it ended.

Lady Pirates squeak past Atlanta

The Lady Pirates now stand at 11-6-2, and 4-3 in 4A Region 2, District 14 play. The district standings as of March 3, are North Lamar 6-0, Liberty Eylau 4-2, Pittsburg 3-3, Pleasant Grove 2-4, Atlanta 2-4, and Paris 1-5.

The Lady Pirates squeaked by Atlanta 13-12, in district game five, Tuesday, April 3 at home. In their second and final district game for this season Atlanta made a comeback in the top of the seventh inning scoring 6 runs to lead the game for the first time. The Lady Pirates came back to tie in bottom of the seventh inning on an Atlanta error and forced the game into an extra inning.

Pirate Baseball wins in extra inning

The Pittsburg Pirates varsity baseball game went into extra innings in their win over Atlanta 3-2 on April 3. The 11-inning game had settled into a pitching duel between the two teams with each opposing teams’ pitchers striking out 10 batters each. Brett McGee started the game on the mound, giving up one run, allowed five hits, and struck out four. Jake Jackson came in relief and Ty Jordan took the last innings as relief pitcher for the win.

In the bottom of the eleventh inning Michael Netro slapped a hit into right field and drove in McGee for the winning run. Pittsburg racked up 11 hits, the most coming from Chris Garcia, McGee, Jackson, and Netro.

Lady Pirates Finish First Season

The inaugural season of the Lady Pirate Soccer Team ended Monday, March 2, in their first play-off game. The Lady Pirates lost to a very good Kilgore team 11 to 0.
