Pirate Soccer Weekly Report

The Pirates lost a non-conference game to Chapel Hill, Tyler Bulldogs, 3-0. Sophomore goalie Marc Germilus was seventy percent in his goal tending duties blocking all but the three scores. Despite his efforts the offense was unable to finish any of their attacks on the Bulldogs goal.

Junior team captain Eric Ponce was chosen as Player of the Game for his leadership despite the loss. The Pirates’ stand at won two, lost five and tied one.

Lady Pirate Soccer Report

The new Lady Pirates are playing like the newbies they are. But playing seasoned teams they are making the mistakes beginners always do. However, they are learning and they will get better. They have a lot of raw talent and it will gel. So take heart Lady Pirate soccer fans this learning curve will not last forever.

Pirate Cheerleaders to compete in UIL State Competition

The Pirate Varsity Cheerleaders will be competing in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) State Competition in the Fort Worth Convention Center. Last year was the teams’ first year to compete and they did well. Mandy Hobbs is the cheer advisor and several mothers of members of the squad reported to the Gazette last year that they were a bit blind-sided by the state judges scoring. Although they thought they were following the rules, the judges’ interpretations were a bit different.

“We did well,” Hobbs said. “But, I learned a lot on what the judges like and don’t.”

Sydney Waldrep named All-State Honorable Mention

Senior 2018, Sydney Waldrep, Setter for the Lady Pirates Volleyball team has been named All-State Honorable Mention in Texas Sports Writers Association 4A All-State Volleyball Team for the 2017 season. Sydney is the daughter of Ann and Terry Waldrep of Pittsburg.

Boy’s basketball wins seven, loses three

Keontae Burns # 5, and Cody Jones #25, vie for a rebound, both out jumping their opponent. Burns eventually came down with it. Jones and Burns are the top rebounders for the Pirates. Burns is also a top scorer.

Pirates continue streak, 7 wins, 3 losses

The Pirates increased their win record to seven and only three losses.

Tuesday, Dec. 12 vs Gilmer

The Pirates defeated the Gilmer Buckeyes Tuesday, Dec. 12, in Gilmer, 52 to 46. Keithlen Griffin was high point man with 20 points, Jaylon Jimmerson scored 18, Kelvin McCain and Cody Jones dropped in five each, and Keontae Burns hit three from the foul line.
