Bradford

Services for Joe Mitchell Bradford, 80, were held June 7 at Bates Cooper Slone Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant with the Bro. Al Baker officiating. Interment was at Monticello Cemetery. He was born April 21, 1934 and died June 4.
 
Mr. Bradford worked for Texas Utilities Mining Company as a parts manager. He was an Army veteran.
 
Survivors include his wife Anita Carson Bradford of Mount Pleasant; son and daughter-in-law, Neal and Sandra Ficke Bradford of Barrington, Ill.; daughter and son-inlaw, Amanda and Steve Jordan of Rockwell; stepson and wife Tim and Kathrene Carson of Iola; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
 
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Rom D. Bradford and Ethel Lee Bradford and wife Sue Bradford.

Simmons

Services for Daphney Deshon Simmons were held Saturday, June 7, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Patrick Lloyd officiating. Interment was at Lafayette Cemetery.
 
She was born May 18, 1974 in Pittsburg. She died June 1 at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.

Tramel

William Paul Tramel, 74, of Longview died June 5 with his loved ones at his side. Services were held at Rader Funeral Home Chapel Monday, June 9, at 10:00 a.m. Interment followed at Rosewood Park in Longview.
 
Mr. Tramel was born July 1, 1939 in Pittsburg, to Zollie Ewing Tramel and Glaida Ann Tramel.
 
At 17 years of age he joined the U.S. Navy and served as a U.S. Navy Seabee for 4 years and another 2 years in the reserves.
 
He married the love of his life Jorgia Tramel October 9, 1960. They then moved to Longview in 1961 and he pursued a career in the refrigeration field and soon after he started his own business, 3D Commercial Refrigeration until he retired in 2003.
 
He was a beloved husband and father of three children, seven grandchildren, and two soon to be great grand children.

J.W. Burgin, 81, of Mount Vernon, died on Monday, May 19. Services were held Friday, May 23 at 2:00 p.m. at Beaty Funeral Home with Rev. Henry Suche officiating. Interment was at Maple Springs Cemetery.
 
Mr. Burgin was born on Feb. 25, 1933 in Camp County.

Walker

Michael Rex Walker’s funeral was held on May 10, at 10 a.m. under the direction of Nail Haggard Funeral Home in Daingerfield. Pallbearers were Michael Hayes, Brandon Neuville, Bobby Neuville, James (Boo) Whelchel, Freddie Leo McNeil, and Ira Tossey. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery in Pittsburg. Bro. John Raney and Bro. Bill Baxter officiated.
 
Michael Rex Walker was born Oct. 23, 1943 in Daingerfield to Sterritt (S.G.) Walker and Ada (Goss) Walker. Michael Rex Walker died May 8, at the Shreveport V.A. Hospital in Shreveport, La. He was 70 years old.

McAfee

Donald McAfee, 84,of Wichita Falls, passed away on May 6, at Potomac Valley Nursing. Services were held Wednesday, May 21 at 2:00p.m. graveside at Bluebonnet Hills Cemetery in Colleyville with Rev. Gary Wingrove officiating the service.
 
Mr. McAfee was born on August 23. 1929. He was a long time resident of Leesburg before relocating to Ft. Worth then Maryland to be closer to his daughter, Karen. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1947-1951, Mr. McAfee was a retired Air Traffic Controller.
 
He is survived by two sisters: Frances Slack and Pat Lincoln; one daughter: Karen Saks; four grandchildren: Chris Peterson, Kelli Brinkkoeter, Melanie Saks, and Monica Saks.
 
Mr. McAfee was preceded in death by two wives: Elizabeth and Betty Jane; one daughter: Kathryn Peterson.

Dunbar

Services for Ray Dunbar, 66, were held Wednesday, April 23, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dan Gilliam officiating. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Erman Smith Funeral Home.
 
Mr. Dunbar was born Nov. 12, 1947 in Houston. He died April 19 at his home in Pittsburg.
 
He is survived by his wife, Vicki; two daughters, Charity Joyner of Crandall and Jacqueline Dunbar of Bossier City, La.; 8 grandchildren, Colten, Molly Mason, Creighton, Chloe and Madden Joyner and Charlotte and Emma Grace Broad; a brotherin- law, Gene Robertson of Longview; two sisters, Betty Fabich of Texarkana, Ark. and Mary Dorothy Crowell of Genoa, Ark.; and an aunt, Betty Maloney of Texarkana, Ark.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gaylon Paul Dunbar and Sara Maud Culver Dunbar.

Former State Legislator Russell leaves legacy

Sam Wilson Russell, 68, died on May 14 in Mount Pleasant. He was born in Gilmer on August 31, 1945.

Mr. Russell attended Mount Pleasant  public schools and graduated in 1964. During high school, he served for a year as a White House Page in Washington, D.C. under the guidance of Congressman Wright Patman.  He graduated from East Texas State University with a bachelor’s degree in business and accounting and graduated from South Texas College of Law in Houston with a Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree.  He was an officer in the student bar association and president of his law fraternity, Phi Alpha Delta.
