Inside this edition of The Pittsburg Gazette, there is a special section full of local business ads designed by Pittsburg fourth graders under the direction of Mary Ruth Townsend, Pittsburg Elementary School and Jan Gaddis representing The Pittsburg Gazette. The fourth graders were chosen this year to design the ads and the winners are from the left: fourth place,Valencia Foley; first place,Allie Parker; fourth grade teacher Mrs.Townsend; third place, Brooklyn Hernandez; and second place, Gabby Diviney. Out of town judges chose the winners for this contest. (See the special section inside.)

The Pittsburg Rodeo to bene t the “handi-capable” is 55 years old this year and going strong. However, like any middle-ager it needs a little help from its friends so be sure and attend at least one night on May 12, 13 or 14. Rodeo starts each night at 7:30 pm, the gates open at 6:00 pm Besides the usual excitement of a professional rodeo, there is also many extra’s this year. The rodeo begins ursday night. Thursday is also is free night and will feature the “No Fence’s” group from the Circle C Cowboy Church. Friday morning is the must see “handi-capable” rodeo. Saturday morning there will be free breakfast burritos at the arena at 9:00 AM.

DECA sponsor, Traci Buckner reports that Pittsburg DECA students attended the DECA International Career Development Conference, in Nashville, Tenn. e conference was held last weekend, and more than 10,000 DECA members demonstrated their college and career knowledge and skills by participating in DECA’s Competitive Events Program. e nalists from their state associations were hoping to be named an international champion.

APRIL 30 Color Fun Run Pittsburg Project Graduation 2016 is hosting the second annual Color Fun Run on Saturday, April 30 to raise money to take our students on a fun- lled, safe event the night of graduation. e race starts and nishes in the parking lot of the Broach park so ball eld. Registration 8 a.m., race time 8:30 a.m. We will have aide stations, four color stations and music on the 5K course.

MAY 1 Memorial Day Service at Macedonia A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 1, at 10:30 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church. A brief business meeting will follow at 1:15 p.m. Guest speaker will be Bro. Randy Stracener. Special music will also be provided. Everyone is invited to bring a covered dish for dinner on the grounds. • Two Camp County churches, Hepsibah Baptist Church and Spring Hill Baptist Church were burglarized.

• Burnis and Betty Covington of Blodgett celebrated 60 years of marriage with a gathering of family and friends.

• Pittsburg resident Dr. Jim Archer has been named a 2006 Alumni Ambassador of Texas A&M University- Commerce.

Stephanie Bailon cuts the ribbon as Mayor Shawn Kennington, and Chamber President Jackson Boyd hold it for her as friends and family and other chamber members celebrate with her. Ms. Bailon and her mother Rosalinda Villegas have reopened the building at 120 Quitman St. under the new name. Jerry’s Bar and Grill is serving lunch and dinner, featuring a full bar upstairs, and the open air balcony. Thursday is shuffleboard tournament night that begins at 7 p.m. Jerry’s is open Tuesday and Wednesday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Thursday 11a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to midnight and closed Sunday and Monday.

First Grade Teacher Wendy Busch introduces the Bee Guy, James Kirkland and his grandson,Camdyn Doddy, for Kirkland’s annual lecture and demonstration to Pittsburg Primary’s first graders about his hobby, the art of bee keeping and its importance to the farmers’ crops and to Texas wild flowers. He also explained how important bees are to the environment. If a swarm of bees appears on your property or where you work, call Mr.Kirkland at 903-575-7629.He is ready and able to remove them and if they are Africanized and aggressive, he can also dispose of these for you too.
