Pilgrim recalls over 5 million pounds of pre-cooked chicken

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a ‘Class 1 Recall,’ with a risk factor of ‘High,’ April 7, and has now issued another Class 1, recall May 6, 2016, for a total of 5, 176, 844 pounds of chicken products. The first recall was issued April 7 was for 40,780 pounds, this recall was expanded on April 26, to an additional 4,524,980 pounds. is last recall issued on May 6, was for 608,764 pounds to reach the over ve million pounds. The first recall was for over 40 thousand pounds of cooked chicken nuggets, labeled as “GOLD KIST FARMS Fully Cooked Whole Grain Popcorn Style Chicken Patty Fritters.” According to Pilgrim’s Pride Corp headquarters now based in Waco, these were mainly sold to schools.

Madison Avery Garrison, 18, was arrested on 05/12, interfering with an emergency call.

Retired teachers award two scholarships

Camp County Retired School Personnel (CCRSP) organization presented their annual Connie M. Hashaway/ Lillian E. Scudder Scholarship awards, Thursday, May 12, during a luncheon honoring the recipients. The awardees are Pittsburg High School Seniors, Tatum Hathcoat and Whitley Hamilton. Hathcoat, after graduation is attending Texas A&M – Commerce, where her course of study will be animal science. Hamilton after graduation will attend Northeast Texas Community College and her chosen course of study will be medical encoding and medical assistance.

Puppies seized after one is beaten; owner arrested

Samuel Lee Co ee, 46, of Leesburg, was arrested April 26, and charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals. Camp County Sheri Alan McCandless, along with Chief Deputy Randal Lain Jr., were dispatched to the call at 8:45 that morning. “We had been advised that Co ee was beating a dog with a bat in his front yard,” Sheri McCandless said. “Upon arrival, we observed Co ee walking in the area where he lives. Chief Deputy Lain asked Co ee if he was beating his dog with a bat. He said ‘no,’ as he walked to the location of two puppies that were chained to stakes in the yard. Co ee said when he fed his two 5-month-old puppies that morning one of them kept biting at his hands, so he grabbed a stick to whip the dog.”
