Local business gets state award

Barefoot Bay Marina and Resort has received the Park of the Year Award from the Texas Association of Campground Owners (TACO), the Lone Star State’s highest campground industry award. “We are very pleased to receive this recognition,” said Barefoot Bay Marina and resort owner DonTalley, who has invested close to $3 million in improvements in the park during the past five years. “We think we’ve got the best RV resort on a beautiful lakeshore. It’s a great spot to camp.” Barefoot Bay received the Park of the Year Award in the medium size park category last week during TACO’s annual spring meeting. Located on 9,000-acre Lake Bob Sandlin about two hours east of Dallas, Barefoot Bay has 80 RV sites and 40 boat slips that can accommodate everything from pontoon boats to sailboats up to 25 feet in length. The wooded resort also has some of the finest campground rental accommodations in Texas.

Chamber hosts “A Casino Night” at Princedale

Pittsburg’s once a year gambling extravaganza, sponsored by the Pittsburg-Camp County Chamber of Commerce, will be held Saturday, June 11, 6 p.m. at Princedale Country Club. A $25 charge will get you in the door for a fun filled evening featuring: blackjack tables, dice, roulette, five card draw and Texas Hold’em.

Habitat for Humanity celebrates completion of remodel

Pictured are people that came out to help celebrate the completion of the rehabbing an old farmhouse donated to Habitat for Humanity of Camp County by Wells Fargo. Habitat President, Mary Lloyd, in blue shirt behind sign, is joined by Habitat board members, construction volunteers, community supporters, and donors such as, Neal and Kurt Hollinquist who donated the cedar trim, all joined to celebrate the completion of the remodel. The funds raised from the sale of this property will go towards new construction planned by Camp Habitat for the Guel family of Pittsburg who live on Henderson Street.

JUNE 5 Union Missionary Baptist Church Anniversary Celebration Union Missionary Baptist Church on Farm to Market Road 2254 in Pittsburg with be celebrating the 29th anniversary of the pastor and first lady on Sunday, June 5 with Rev. B. R Hargest and Sis Glyndaline Hargest as moderators. The program begins at 3 p.m. Guest speaker is Rev. D. R. McCallester of Unity Baptist Church in Grapeland.

JUNE 4 Bluegrass & BBQ Spring Hill Missionary Baptist church located at 81 Titus County Road 4690 is hosting a Bluegrass & BBQ event on Saturday June 4 @ 6pm. Guest speaker

Jim Pendley (left) was the guest speaker at the Gordon Mattison Post 422 at the American Legion Monday, May 23 at 525 Elm Street. Mr. Pendley spoke on his experiences in Vietnam as a combat medic. Also pictured is Franklin Harrison, Commander of Post 422. The American Legion, Post 422, meets each month on the fourth Monday at the local Post building, 525 Elm Street.

New RN grads

The Nursing Program at Northeast Texas Community College recently awarded 37 students with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing. These students are now eligible to test to become Registered Nurses.
