A Cuban adventure

By Jim Moser

A few weeks ago my wife, Suzette, and I embarked on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Cuba and it was immensely interesting on several fronts. Many Americans have viewed Cuba as a “forbidden land” for more than 50 years and I think that is the biggest lure for most of us. My wife and I had talked about wanting to visit Cuba for as long as I’ve known her so, when the chance arose, we jumped. Well, I guess we ew, actually. A trade group with which we are involved – Southern Newspaper Publishers Association – announced that it was organizing a tour of Cuba. What better way to see the country than with a familiar group of newspaper folks, right? So o we went. And if you nd the people, the history, the landscape and the politics of the island-nation as fascinating as I do, I hope you will join me as I attempt to share some of the experience here.
