Pittsburg unveils national register sign

July 2 dawned with a new sign flashing on Quitman Street. With the trash bag off, the new sign announced Pittsburg’s downtown area is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Reynolds retires from funeral home

Don Reynolds began working at Erman Smith Funeral Home the day it opened on March 23, 1966. He was honored with a reception July 1 upon his retirement. With Mr. Reynolds are his grandsons, Tyler Reynolds, left, and Drew Lawton.

Fire breaks out on Hwy. 11

Princedale Invitational hosts special guest Ricky Meeks

The ninth Annual Princedale Country Club Junior Invitational was held June 15. The golfers were treated to a motivational speech by special guest, Coach Ricky Joe Meeks of Pittsburg High School, the offensive coordinator/head girls’ and boys’ golf coach for Pittsburg. Players from as far south as Van and as far west as Royce City played in the nine-hole tournament.

Webster named to college board

Last Tuesday evening, the Northeast Texas Community College board of trustees unanimously appointed Jerry Webster, market president for Pilgrim Bank in Pittsburg, to Place I of the board of trustees.
Dr. Dan McCauley commented on Mr. Webster’s commitment to community service and his active interest in the college over the past years. Dr. McCauley said the board looks forward to working with Mr. Webster on important issues facing NTCC at this time.
Mr. Webster’s appointment is for the next year of the unexpired seat vacated by the retirement of long-time board member, Jerry Massey. The seat will be up for election in 2014.

Shrum retires from Pittsburg Tractor

Larry Shrum has come a long way from the 11-year-old boy who swept floors for his uncle, Buddy Hughes, at Pittsburg Service Station. He’s been working with tractors since that day. Mr. Shrum retired June 20, as owner of Pittsburg Tractor, a business that sells equipment worldwide.
