City of Pittsburg gives landowner 30 days to clean up old Coker Ford building

By Amber Counts

Landowner Lida Phou was given 30 days to clean up her property, located at 220 Quitman St. (the old Coker Ford building) by City of Pittsburg council members in their meeting Monday.

According to city inspector J.D. McElhaney, the building is filled with cardboard boxes and presents a fire hazard, along with other issues. “The ceiling is falling in…it’s rough,” Mrs. McElhaney said.

Owner Mrs. Lida Phou said she is in the process of selling the property, and unfortunately the cardboard was left by a renter.

Mayor Shawn Kennington asked her if she could get the boxes removed and the property cleaned up within 30 days. Mrs. Phou said she didn’t know if she could find someone to clean it out in that time.

Suggestions were made by the council to rent a roll off dumpster from the city and hire someone to clean out the building.
