Answer Line

What is the plan for the paving of FM 993? As it has been left now, there are no stripes, you can still see old pavement under the thin layer they have put on, and at night you are not able to tell where the road ends and the grass begins.
From Marcus Sandifer, Public Information Officer Texas Department of Transportation Atlanta District, The work being done on FM 993 in Camp County right now is patching work done to repair failed sections of pavement and also to level up the roadway.  It is being done in preparation for a seal coat project over the entire roadway set for next summer. A seal coat involves spraying a thin layer of liquid asphalt over the roadway and then covering it with crushed rock or other type of aggregate. The process waterproofs the roadway and improves skid resistance. The “patches” on the roadway are scheduled to be restriped during the next few weeks when all the patching work is completed.

Ministering our military

The Ministering Our Military (M.O.M) group will be having a float in the downtown Mount Vernon and Mount Pleasant Christmas parades Dec. 7. The group will also be having a care package packing station set up on the square in Mount Pleasant from noon until 7:00 p.m., the same day as the parade.
“We would love all that would like to help pack boxes or bring items to come out and help us,” MOM member Suzette McAuley said.
MOM started in March of 2013. The group wanted to do something for their sons and daughters in the military. They send care packages, cards or letters to the soldiers. As well as the packages, the group prays for the soldiers but also is a support for each other.
MOM does not just consist of moms, but dads, siblings, cousins, inlaws and those who love our military. For more information contact Suzette McAuley 903-767-2731 or Kellye Cooper 903-466-1831 or you can email at mommp2013@gmail.com
