Raffle

Jennifer Rodriquez was presented a check from a raffle held at Burn’s Gun and Pawn Shop benefiting her recovery process . Jennifer was injured in a car wreck in late summer. She has a full scholarhip from Texas A&M University in College Station waiting for her upon her recovery. Bridge tournament

Linda Harrison (left) and Janie Wolaver of Jefferson were co-hosts for the Sept . 29-Oc t. 1 Lake Country American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) Sectional Tournament. The tournament was sponsored by the Pittsburg and Lake Cypress Springs Duplicate Bridge Clubs. The tournament was held at the Holiday Inn in Longview with a total of 134 tables and players from East Texas, Dallas area, Arkansas, Louisiana and New Mexico attending.

Celebrating 50 years

Jimmy and Linda Monts will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct. 6, 2017. The couple married in the First Baptist Church, Pittsburg on Oct. 6, 1967. They plan to celebrate with a trip to Arkansas which was a stop on their honeymoon 50 years ago. Jimmy and Linda have one son, Randy Monts and wife, Allison Monts, and two grandchildren, Megan Monts, 21 year old senior at the University of Texas at Tyler and Mason Monts, 17 year old junior in Pittsburg High School.

Massey & Reese

Jennifer and Jason Hammonds and Greg Massey of Pittsburg announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, MaKinzie Milaine Massey to Braden Thomas Reese, son of Chris and Candace Reese and Leressa Reese of Mount Pleasant.

The bride is a 2011 graduate of Pittsburg High School. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University Texarkana with a Bachelor of Business Administration. She is employed by Priefert Manufacturing in Mount Pleasant. The groom is a 2012 graduate of Bethel Christian Academy and served in the U.S. Army. He is employed by Pittsburg Steel in Pittsburg.

Grandparents of the bride are Bobby and Tressie Presley of Pittsburg and Bobby and the late Wanda Massey also of Pittsburg. Grandparents of the groom are Kenneth and Betty Reese of Mount Pleasant and Marilyn and the lage JB Hoffman of Mount Pleasant.

Pirate Gold Awards for September

During the Sept. 18 Pittsburg school board meeting, Terri Brown, principal of the intermediate school, presented Pirate Gold Awards to left to right: Susan Gilbert, Jennifer Poe, and Stacy Behymer. In her remarks before presenting the awards she said of these teachers, “These are distinguished teachers. Distinguished is defined as successful, authoritative, and commands respect,” Brown said. “All of you exhibit these characteristics daily.”

FUMC to hold Lord’s Acre sale

The Lord’s Acre Movement is an international social movement that originated in Bluffton, Ga . in 1922, when Rev. Henry M. Melton asked each of the farmers in his congregation to set aside one acre of farmland, donating the proceeds of “the Lord’s acres” to the church. (Wikipedia). Today, churches continue the tradition by holding tag sales, dinners, luncheons, auctions and more to provide funds for various church missions.

First Methodist Church, Pittsburg will hold its first Lord’s Acre event Sept . 28-30, 8:30-5:30 pm. Hours on Saturday, 8:30 – 1:00 p.m. The event held at the Ministry Center (209 M ount Pleasant Street across the street from the church . It will offerf all manner of goods, furniture, clothing, linens, housewares, Christmas décor, sporting goods, toys, appliances, and more clothing .

City of Pittsburg gets recognition from Texas President’s Program

Finalists for the 2017 TDA President’s Awards Program were announced on Thursday, September 14 in Austin. The awards program recognizes outstanding projects, places, and people of Texas downtowns and is sponsored by the Texas Downtown Association (TDA).

Downtown Pittsburg is home to two finalists. Pilgrim Bank is a finalist in the Best Downtown Partner under 50,000 population category. The other finalists are Bastrop Economic Development Corporation and Elgin Economic Development Corporation. Pilgrim Plaza is a finalist in the Best Public Improvement under 50,000 population category. The other finalists in this category are The Alley on Third in Downtown Mount Pleasant and Seguin’s Downtown Public Library.
