VBS is June 10 at PGBC
LEESBURG – The Piney Grove Baptist Church, 4942 FM 2455, will host an all-day Vacation Bible School on Saturday, June 10.
It will start at 9 a.m. for children ages 3 through sixth grade.
Parents are invited to attend at 4 p.m. for closing ceremonies, food and games for all.

Area church hosting VBS
GILMER – The Union Ridge Church will host Vacation Bible School for children and adults on June 23-25.
Friday and Saturday’s classes are 5:45 to 8:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 9:30 a.m., followed by lunch on the grounds.

PHS graduate retires from U.S. Navy

After 28 years, a former Pittsburg High School graduate has recently retired from the United States Navy as lieutenant commander 
Lt. Commander Eric Turner, the son of Winfred and Gaylon Turner, retired from his last duty station at Commander, Navy Information Dominance Forces located in Suffolk, Va.
While there, he played an instrumental role in the installation of future communication technologies on naval ships geared to counter/defend against adversarial threats.  
Also, Turner led a team of technicians in ensuring all currently installed communication equipment at shore communication sites were properly maintained and able to meet any and all operational commitments placed on the Navy. Turner, a 1987 graduate of Pittsburg High School, attended basic training in Great Lakes, Ill., then he went to radioman school in San Diego, Calif.

Republican Women’s group meeting
The Republican Women of Northeast Texas will hold their monthly meeting at 6 p.m. at the Mount Pleasant Country Club. The speaker is Cathie Adams, who will speak on implication of the 2015 Paris Treaty and give an update on the United Nations. All interested persons are invited to attend. There is a buffet dinner for those who wish to eat, no cash will be accepted.

Theatre Northeast to perform on April 27-30

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Theatre Northeast, the student theatre group of Northeast Texas Community College, will present variety of monologues, scenes, songs, dramatic readings and a short play on-stage in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts April 27-30. 
The Thursday through Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinee is at 2:05 p.m.
General admission is $5 for adults; $3 for students 17 and under, senior citizens, NTCC faculty and staff; and free for NTCC students with ID. 
Due to the intimate nature of the event, seating is limited and reservations are recommended. Seats can be reserved by calling the Whatley Center box office at 903-434-8181. 
The performance will contain mature language and adult themes, so parental discretion is advised.

Masonic Lodge awards Community Builders Award, Lamar Medal

Frank Sexton Lodge No. 206 of Pittsburg honored Cheryl Woodard and Maudie Watson on March 11 with the Community Builders Award and Lamar Medal respectively.
Woodard was honored for her dedicated years of service to the schools of Camp County and to the general population of the county. She has worked in numerous programs throughout the years involving children in the schools back pack program where children receive food for the week ends and a coat program to keep them warm during the winter. 
She has also worked in many efforts in the community to improve the lives of all citizens and is a recognized leader in the community. The number of organizations she has helped and supported over the years are numerous.
The Community Builder Award is given to recognize outstanding non-masons who have distinguished service to their community, local, state, or national governments or to their church or synagogue.

Plant sale is April 1 in Mount Pleasant

The annual Northeast Texas Community College Spring Plant Sale will be hosted April 1 at the Mount Pleasant Super 1 Foods parking lot from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (or until sold out). Various sizes and varieties of tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers will be available, plus numerous other vegetables, herbs, shrubs, vines and trees ready to plant in your garden or patio pots. Local Duplicate Bridge Club meets

The Pittsburg Duplicate Bridge Club met March 7.  
Winners included: 
• North/South-Sandy Lansing and Linda Harrison with 57.50 percent; Janie and Jerrell Wolaver with 51.67 percent; Cliff Smith and Helen Sullivan with 50.83 percent; and Denny Forest and Jaudon Wilhite with 50.83 percent. 
• East/West- Dorothy McCasland and Liz Guthrie with 63.33 percent; Charles and Heather Sanders with 58.33 percent; Linda Bolton and Linda Edmondson with 56.25 percent; and Jean Huskey and Jean Friedell with 46.67 percent. 
The club is offering free basic duplicate bridge lessons on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. at the American Legion Building.
