DanceFest features ‘Sleeping Beauty’

Tyler Junior College’s Dance Department and Academy of Dance present DanceFest 2018, featuring a full-length, contemporary production of the classic fairytale, “Sleeping Beauty.”

Show times are 7 p.m. Friday, April 6; 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, April 7; and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 8, in Wise Auditorium on the TJC main campus. The production is part of TJC’s Arts Festival, a month-long celebration of exhibits and performances by TJC students, faculty and staff.

Cody Busbee sworn in

After being sworn in by Pittsburg Mayor Shawn Kennington, Brandi Busbee pins a new Pittsburg Police Department badge onto her husband Cody Busbee’s new blue uniform. Busbee served as Animal Control Officer until his recent graduation from the Kilgore Police Academy. Also attending the ceremony was his young son Rylen and baby daughter Jayde Busbee, and his father and step-mom David and Beth Busbee.

Chrome books

On Thursday, Feb 22, Chad Elledge, chief administrative officer, for First National Bank was pleased to award five Pittsburg High School students with a Samsung chrome book. Mr. Elledge,visited the high school campus to distribute the chrome books to the qualifying dual credit students. R recipients were, Anita Chan, Kenzie Lou Bramblett, Berenice Perez, and Savannah Klobucar . Lessly Garza, not pictured, also was a recipient.

20th Century Club

Melanie Bass, owner of Sisters Reclaimed in downtown Pittsburg, spoke to the 20th Century Club about a new project of putting Pittsburg on the map as a Christmas destination. Pittsburg SkillsUSA sends 17 to State

The Pittsburg High School (PHS) SkillsUSA students attended the SkillsUSA District 5 competition in Waco February 8–10. Pittsburg had 24 competitors who brought home a combined total of 31 medals – 14 Gold, 4 Silver, and 13 Bronze. This contest was the largest District 5 competition in history with over 845 competitors in 146 unique competitions.

Nominations for Texas Women’s Hall of Fame

The Texas Governor’s Commission for Women is now accepting nominations for the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame. Nominations are open to any native or current residents of Texas, living or deceased, who have made significant contributions to the State of Texas.

Organized by the Texas Governor’s Commission for Women, the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame includes former First Ladies, astronauts, entrepreneurs and Olympic athletes.

CASA receives $1, 000 donation

CASA of Titus, Camp and Morris Counties received a donation of $1,000 from the “Nita DeWoody Memorial Fund”. Ms. DeWoody served on the CASA Board in 2014 and was very passionate about helping children that were removed from their families and placed in foster care due to abuse and neglect. “As a Physician Assistant, Nita would sometimes witness signs of abuse or neglect during her medical care of patients ,” her sister Christi Denney said.

Rotary Club

The children of Don Reynolds, Mike and Elizabeth, accepted a Paul Harris Fellow from the Pittsburg Rotary Club last week in memory of their dad, Don Reynolds. The Rotary Club recognized Mr. Reynolds for his devotion to Rotary for 57 years, joining in 1961.
