High School Choir goes caroling

The Pirate high school choir led by Director Karen Thomas toured downtown singing carols in the businesses.

The Gazette caught up with them in Mayben’s clothing store as the choir serenaded those working and shopping in the store.

Jerald and Mary Lou Mowery give $2,000 for special NTCC projects

Jerald and Mary Lou Mowery recently gave $2,000 to support special projects at Northeast Texas Community College. The gift will help Honors Northeast sponsor the 2018 McGraw-Hill Poster Contest and it will also support next year’s Honors film project.

All gifts to the NTCC Foundation are tax-deductible and directly help local students.

VFW announces winners of 2017-18 essay contest

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Camp County Memorial Post 5398 announced the winners of the 2017-18, Voice of Democracy essay contest Tuesday, Dec. 5. This year’s theme was American History: Our Hope for the Future. The high school first place winner is: Esteban L. Miner, the son of Davey and Rachael Miner, of Pittsburg.

ETMC Olympic Center food drive helps East Texans

The East Texas Medical Center Olympic Center partnered with the East Texas Food Bank in November and brought in 23 barrels filled with thousands of pounds of canned and boxed food items for needy East Texans.

“We are so proud of our ETMC team members and clients who brought food to our donation barrels for this important mission,” said Jeramie Hinojosa, director of the ETMC Olympic Center.

Pittsburg Junior High majorettes place first

The junior high majorettes competed in the Vicki Bowden Mobb’s Twirl Classic at Kilgore College on Saturday, Nov. 18.

The team received a first place out of four teams in the Show Routine category. The young ladies placed third place out of eight teams in the Dance-Twirl category and third place, out of six teams, in the Multi-Baton category. They also received special recognition trophies for baton handling, costume design and performance presentation
