The Lady Pirates picked up a convincing win at home last Tuesday as they defeated the visiting Lady Buffaloes of Lone Oak, 60-47.

Lady Pirates win two, drop one this week

By Jeremy Weber

The Lady Pirates saw one slip away on the road at Dekalb last week as Pittsburg went into the fourth quarter with the lead but could not hold on down the stretch.
After leading the majority of the contest, the Lady Pirates allowed a Dekalb run that put the Lady Bears up late in the game. Pittsburg still had a chance with just over 15 seconds to play as the Lady Pirates trailed by just one and were inbounding the ball on their side of the court. Dekalb was able to come up with the steal and raced the length of the floor for a layup to seal the win.

Pirates season ends with 48-0 loss to 4th-ranked Buckeyes

By Nick Counts

The Pittsburg Pirates have had their playoff run cut short as they fall to the Gilmer Buckeyes at Pine Tree High School 48-0.
The score looks in huge favor to the Gilmer squad, but the game was well fought by the Pittsburg Pirate football team.
The Pirates were able to hold off the attack of the Buckeyes in the first half of the game as they fended off the Gilmer offense and kept them from scoring.
The first score of the game by Gilmer came off a punt return for a touchdown due to a miscue on the special teams play.
The defense stepped up all night long, they held the Buckeye offense out of the end zone drive after drive including a turnover on downs to begin the second quarter.
On the ensuing drive, the Pirates picked up a first down on an 11 yard scramble from Garrett Truitt, but the drive was cut short after that with a punt on the next down set.

Pirates earn Bi-District title with 54-49 win over Tigers

By Jeremy Weber

The Pirates survived a tough fight in the opening round of a Division II Class 3A playoffs Friday night at they outlasted the Wills Point Tigers in a game that saw the teams combine for more than 1,100 yards of total offense. The Bi-District champion Pirates now advance to face Gilmer in the Area Playoffs in Longview Thursday.
The Pirates had no problem scoring against the Tigers when the teams faced off in the opening game of the regular season back in August, a game which Pittsburg won 55-14. This time around, though, the Tigers found ways to cut through the Pirate defense to put up 49 points, including building a 15-point lead in the first quarter of the contest.
